Haven't heard much lately but had to make a run into the high country today. Usually have a lot going on up there in the summer but not this year. Anyway, lots of skip once I got up out of the city and up to 6000 feet. 38 LSB was crawling with contacts. Tried a few other channels and they were busy too. Even in the canyons I was talking to Northern Idaho, Southern Cal, Arizona and hearing from Texas and Colorado and a few farther east as well. When I got up over 7000 feet, it wasn't as busy, but I still had a few good contacts. When I got back down to I-80, east of Park City (switched back to 19 AM on the freeway) and was talking, clear as a bell, to Salt Lake 20 miles away with the Wasatch Front in between us. It had to be skip, but it was sure clear. And this was all from a lighter-plug, radio-on-the-passenger-seat with a Radio Shack magnet mount in my Daughter's Honda Civic! (It was a good radio though).

Now I'm home and everything is dead. (Well, except me, I'm not dead but ... it is getting closer...)

Had couple hours of skip 38 LSB last night. Made in state contact on CH 6 am too. That was wierd, I was trying to contact #2 . 54 Alaska said I was "knocking on his back door" his antenna was pointing down south. Made bunch of contact on 38 LSB. Quasimodo Yukon territory, 405 Saskatchewan, even Anchorage Alaska 244.
918 was loud today channel 6am. There were a few others on 38 LSB but no contact. Maybe tonight will be rolling.

Had contact from Tibet this evening. Heard a couple dudes talking on channel 8 but were not readable. So I switched to sideband. They were on USB. I thought they were speaking Japanese. So I called out hello Japan. They moved to channel 9 USB. I called out to them again. One of them responded " radio Tibet ". Then they moved to 21 USB. They prrolly didn't want to be interrupted.

You know, we should all be hearing Tibet all the time. Even a 3' mobile antenna has the advantage of starting out at an average altitude of 15,000 feet! Put a 30' tower on top of that and well, you'd really be getting up there!

Been getting a lot more skip the past few days, am and ssb. But it comes in waves. I came in early the other day (3:00 pm) and switched on the Washington (38-lsb) and it sounded like a loud convention going on. Western Canada to Southern Cal. coming in like they were next door. And I was talking to most of them easily. Got a guy in Aussie land too, loud and clear but he could barely hear me. 17-am was so crowded it was like a Sunday afternoon at a Flyin-J parking lot in 1976 ... vulgarity, profanity, rudeness, idiots playing songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Tammy Wynette and some born-again-nutcase arguing his interpretation of the Martin Luther Bible and way off in the background, I think I heard President Trump firing his staff. It was real nuts!

A half hour later, it all faded away and all I had was soft static.

I use the old school method to talk across the street, I break out the cans with the string attached.. I get my name called all the time, then a car comes by and conditions change just like that..

WOW, that is great. With my little rig, once I get it up, I'll be lucky to get across town.

I was using a President McKinley this weekend, talked to guys across the country on AM and SSB. If you have a good antenna and good conditions I think you will be surprised.
I just got a Patriot antenna. In a few weeks we will get that up and I'll probably get out better.

Made contacts with several stations in Washington state, RH, Quebec Canada, and from Texas today with my HR2510 with a Palomar TX150..microphone was a Turner +3 mic. I was heard.. had excellent QSO's today.

Skip was spotty...antenna was in great tune too. Signal was coming in and out, though.
