Technicians lic study

Ok, so I see Amature technicians test offered relatively close to me on a regular basis. Cool.
Study classes however are over 1 hour travel one way and multiple nights.
Question is can I study on my own with the many available printed resources and take the test when I am ready? Or is the classroom prep required?
I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

Plenty of free ham exam sites on the internet and several apps for a smart phone, I used one by "Roy Watson" on my iPhone to study for the exams while waiting to pick my wife up from work. One suggestion is to study for both the tech and general, when you pass the tech take the general at the same sitting. Thank you both for those links and your ongoing advice in this forum. MD Youngblood, that is a good idea to go back to back, same time.
Not that I mind going to a class or classes but I have no time now as it is and I'm so tired of driving all over. At home and on the go App study is looking really good. I'm sure I'm gonna have another question for y'all soon enough...

Ok,so here it is...next question
If I have a base radio with AM,SSB, 10 and 12 meter capabilitys, I know there are antennas that will work with all those bands but what I seem to be reading is going from say AM to 10 meter the antenna would have to be adjusted. How do you guys use one antenna for all those bands without climbing the pole to adjust the antenna itself?
Do I need two antennas?
Is there an inside adjustment of some type?
I'd like to have one antenna (locations are tough as I already have a Discone out for scanning) and be able to use Am/SSB and then switch to ham the same day if I wanted.

Most of the newer ham radios can accommodate both 10 and 12m using say a 11m CB antenna, at 10m the antenna will be a little long, at 12m it's too short. A CB antenna will actually work well on 20m, 15 and 17m not so much. The newer radios have built in antenna tuners that can adjust the SWR (fool the radio) into thinking the antenna is at an acceptable range. An external tuner can be used as well. If you look into ham vertical antennas, most are loaded by means of a coil to get the frequencies wanted and not need a tuner.

I know this is a little old but eham.net is a good site as well for practice exams. The ones that you get incorrect appear on the next practice test if you immediately take another, so you learn what you are weak on. I was also wondering, did you pass your Tech exam and your General? I am almost finished with the ARRL General license book and plan to test sometime this month if all goes well and finally upgrade!

Devil dog, the thread ain’t old at all. Thanks for the new suggestion.
I have not taken the exam yet. Hunting season and Work have had me super busy. I almost passed the tech practice test without any study the day after I posted this thread.
I know I need to study though. I’m good at tests but that doesn’t mean I know anything, lol
