how much drive into a sb-220? book says 100watts so that must mean 200 peak???

Welcome to the forum. A quick answer to your question is "No", if you are reading the original manual it means that 100 watts is the amps maximum input. Most operators using that amp has their input set at around 50 to 60 watts and that usually drives it up to full output. Now I am not saying it wouldn't handle more but frying the tubes for a couple more watts just isn't economical.

Remember, that amp was actually made for SSB. The amp should only deadkey about 250w carrier out. The plate transformer isn’t made for a big deadkey.
