Galaxy DX959 10Kc Mod
Galaxy DX959 10Kc Mod
Gonna be doing the 10Kc mod to my radio soon. I was looking at the main pcb diagram. And it does not show that trace. So i opened up the radio, and sure enough, no trace. Is it possible the radio is already set up for 10Kc swing? Not really sure what to do now.

Here you go, make sure you put the resistor on in the right direction.

No, the trace is the area that goes from the solder pad to the next one (lighter green color), the darker green area is just the separation between traces.

Thanks, that's what was confusing me. So i'm cutting from the red line to the other line to the right. Without cutting into either of the 2 lines. The diagram seemed to show cutting the red line. I guess i still have some learning to do.

Just to be straight, you cut the trace in your picture from the small red line to the tip of your arrow.

Yes, i will be cutting the open space from the red line to the other side. So if the open space inside the lines is the trace. What are the actual lines on the board called. I always thought those were the traces.

Scratch the green coating and you should see the copper trace, make 2 slices slightly apart and lift the cut piece. good thing is if you want to remove the mod just make a solder bridge.

All done. That wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Just need a slow steady hand. Now if the mail would just get here. Hope you can see the pic.

Well i seem to have some kind of problem. Turn the radio on and it seems fine. But when i flip the switch to "on" the display shows 10.**Censored** MHz then it kind of flickers on and off. Which i'm guessing is not a good thing. Now looking at the diagram, does it matter which way i through the switch?

Look at your work and make sure you didn't cross any solder joints, especially at pin 9, the resistor isn't touching anything and you cut the trace completely, you should see board material in the gap.

Re: Galaxy DX959 10Kc Mod
looking at the piture you are showing the trace cut does not look like it is cut all the way through.you should be seeing the fiber portion of the board instead of some thing shinny looking.
look at the link I left you from cbtricks and see if what you did looks like the drawing they made years ago. has always worked for me. also depending on what channel you are on makes a difference as to whether it goes 10 up or down. it will not jump 10kc up on every channel. some it will have to go 10 down to get to the channel you want.

Thanks bud. cbtricks is the link i'm working off of. My main problem is i can't see. Getting old. I need to pick up new glasses. But i do believe you are right on the trace issue. I did try to cut a little deeper. Will see what happens when i get new glasses. Will post the results.sonoma wrote: Feb 19 2019, 21:00 looking at the piture you are showing the trace cut does not look like it is cut all the way through.you should be seeing the fiber portion of the board instead of some thing shinny looking.

Re: Galaxy DX959 10Kc Mod
Know what you mean about having a hard time seeing. I am 67 and have to use a strong set of magnifying glasses to see the traces properly. I use a hood type glasses that flip up to see the traces. pull them down to see the traces. you can buy them from a lot of suppliers very cheap to work on a radio.just do a search and the glasses should come up so you can see different versions of them.

Beachbum I sent you a PM with a link to the type of glasses I use for repairs.
Re: Galaxy DX959 10Kc Mod
Got it, thanks. I like those as their portable. Can be used elsewhere if needed. But, still trying to decide. And waiting on some "toy" money to come in. Just wanna get my radio up again. I'll let to know what happens.sonoma wrote: Feb 27 2019, 06:11 Beachbum I sent you a PM with a link to the type of glasses I use for repairs.
