New Radio Setup - Questions on equipment

#395362

Post by Nickolius »

Hello Everyone,

I am entirely new to the CB radio world, and exited to start with a mobile setup. I have poured hours into research across Google, Forums, Facebook Groups, and so on and am not entirely certain that the setup is a good one at this point based on the information I have found, and the answers I have received from others. I am hoping to find help here on whether or not this is a good setup, or if I should change anything.

I am still undecided between radios, the two I am considering are the Uniden BearCat 980 SSB or the Galaxy DX959B --

-- I like the NOAA feature on the 980, but have been told that the DX959 is an all around better radio. For my needs, (I do landscape photography and travel to pretty remote places) I can see the NOAA weather radio being useful. Others have suggested a basic scanner radio to pickup the NOAA channels, and to just get the Galaxy. Others have said that the 980 is a great radio and the best of the two. Personally I am leaning towards the 980, but I am not able to decide because I do not know much about either of them. Can anyone shed some light on which is better, and why?

I chose 18' of Wilson cable, along with the Wilson Trucker 2000 CB antenna. I am going to roof mount it with a right angle stud on my 2011 Ford E150, I am planning to center it on the cab. I transformed the truck into a camper van, and the rear of the van is finished and not accessible because of the paneling I used, and the AC unit on the roof, or I would try to center it the best I can on the center of the full roof.

Is this a good setup, or am I missing anything? Should anything be changed? My biggest question is with the radios, and the pros and cons of each.

Thank you in advance for all of your help. :D

my son just got a bearcat and it is a nice radio, that said, it doesn't appear to be modifyable in any way. digital face. sleek design.
un- like a knob faced galxy that can be played with, you have to look at what you are doing.
