RM Italy KL503 Amp

Trying to find some info on this amp. And as usual, everybody seems to have a different opinion. So what does running just the preamp only on this amp do? Or does the amp have to be on also?? This amp also seems to make a click sound when i key up and then unkey the mic.

I have found that the clicking was due to the power supply
not being strong enough to power the amp.

I haven't ever run the preamp without the amp on.

I have run the amp without the pre-amp on, though.

The preamp is only for recieving signals if you hear someone that sounds weak, hit the preamp and they should be stronger. Mind you a preamp will also amplify noise too.

Thanks, Always seemed my signal got stronger when the preamp was on. But was hoping it worked both on tx and rx. Rx is good enough.

I don't use a pre-amp, if you look at ham amplifiers, none of them have that feature but some of the newer radios do. The RM Italy usually has a 6db pre-amp but turning it on to hear distant stations also brings the noise level up.
