Identify this amp?
Can anyone identify this amp? my gut says pride 150.
Only getting 20watts on medium and 50 watts on high. not hearing or seeing any relay action.
What is an easy way to test a relay to see if it is really stuck or ?[Please login or register to view this link][Please login or register to view this link]
Thanks,

Re: Identify this amp?
If you are putting 2-4 watts in and getting 20-50 watts out then the relays are probably working. Does your receiver work Ok? If so then the relays are probably not stuck. I don't think two pills are good for more than maybe 100 watts peak fully modulated. See what you get on SSB with steady modulation. Just my guess.

Re: Identify this amp?
It has 2 MRF465 which datasheet wise should give close to 140watts. SSB behaves the same as AM soon as I key the mike output shows on meter. Normally in my experience SSB will only show wattage when modulating. As far as reciever I'm working on a dummy load. Though connected to the dummy load I was picking up the superbowl Ch6.

Re: Identify this amp?
Where do you see MRF 465"s?
The Amp you have a picture of has MRF 455's which should do around 60w's...box should be doing between 100-150w. probably closer to 130w, depending on the radio.

Re: Identify this amp?
Actually on the Pills. That is just the closest schematic I've been able to find. Relays are not normally quiet are they? I've never run across quiet ones.
Some Youtube videos have a pride 150 and pride 100's and they're setup the same with the relays on the back of the amp just like the one I have in hand.
The only thing on the amp is 150 then ONE FIFTY and then screened on the PCB is G100a.

Re: Identify this amp?
The G 100 A is a "Gray" amplifier board, it was widely used by small builders because of their quality and they were cheap, the face looks familiar but just can't recall. If someone has that "Google" photo search, try it. It's not a "Pride" and I don't think it is a later "Gray".

It's a Gray 150...Here's another Gray 150, different switches on the front, but basic same set-up

Re: Identify this amp?
I verified that visually the relay is not reacting. Based on some Texas star troubleshooting I tried to manually keyup touching the 470 to ground for the switching circuit. Nada. will pull the 2n2905 and test it.

Also check D4 and D1, both will go bad if overvolted or overdriven.

Re: Identify this amp?
Upon further inspection d4 on the opposite side of pcb there is a 470 ohm resistor paralleled with the d4 diode. Why in the world would someone do that?
That disables the diode function.

Re: Identify this amp?
Replaced the keying transistor now 1st relay works. Still only 50 watts gonna test both pills. What makes the 2nd relay work?
Also turned on recieve amplifier smoked a resistor. D3 is also bad not sure if it was previously or not. I'm thinking D3 might be holding second relay.

Re: Identify this amp?
The second relay is for the pre-amp, kicks it out when the radio is keyed.

Re: Identify this amp?
Ok I'm having a problem here. I can't figure out this resistor if it's 8k or 80k even though it measures .8ohm out of circuit.
I'm seeing grey black red red(can't tell if this is red or brown on this one) silver.
This is not the one that burn but color code was the same before it smoked, I looked at it beforehandcause they looked to be plastic encased resistors.

Looks like silver, black, red, brown, silver (wide band, tolerance) to me.nosaj wrote: July 28th, 2019, 2:36 pm Ok I'm having a problem here. I can't figure out this resistor if it's 8k or 80k even though it measures .8ohm out of circuit.
