ECI linear tube amp info

#398159

Post by nosaj »

Can anyone point me in a direction for a schematic for this amp?
Also I am fairly new to RF amp especially tube one, but adjusting the finals knob on this one you can see arcing on the tuner. Is this normal?

Thanks,

I found this,

Watch out for the caps, they can be deadly, the arcing isn't normal, probably needs the air cap cleaned and new HV caps installed.

You used to be able to find info on "The Boat Anchor Manual Archive", [Please login or register to view this link] , but a couple years ago they removed a lot of manuals and schematics of the equipment was used on 11m band. This is a good site to bookmark.

using a lil Kung-Fu I used the wayback machine to 04[Please login or register to view this link]
Nothing from ECI or courier. Also checked several other years. The wayback is a way to view pages people didn't keep up .

I've been doing tube work for a while, just in the audio section.(guitar amps, radios) Only recently crossed over to RF. I've been bitten a few times, so I do pay attention and verify with a meter most times. I ran some CRC electronic cleaner through it but it's still doing it.

I guess you have the output hooked up to a dummy load or an antenna. I bet a singe tube amp doesn't take more than 1-2 watts to drive it. Any chance you could be over driving it? That might account for the arcing.

yea into a cantenna. Matter of fact I just hooked up a ltd25 that had a variable output on it. Bumping it down eliminated the arcing.
Getting about almost 30watts out. This looks like an all band amp. CW, FM, AM, SSB. Will put it on the monitor scope tomorrow to see what the signal looks like. It seems to me that I wouldn't want this amp unless I was looking to complete a set.
The guys that sold it guestimated it was a 100watt amp based on 1 tube. Guess he's gonna eat some crow. I like doing work for him cause I see a lot of different things, but he really needs to know what he's selling.

The 6146A tube was used in several ham radios, mostly in pairs to achieve 100w so figure one is one going to do 50w max.
