COBRA 2000GTL PROBLEM
Got a 2000 gtl that transmits and modulates no problem but on receive i hear no one, i can key another radio nearbye and it will receive that, but nothing else, it has volume. when i flip the cb/pa to pa and key the mic and speak i heaR myself through the speaker is this normal ? if i plug the speaker into the pa jack with cb/pa switch to pa i hear nothing at all, when i speak into mic nothing at all from pa.
where should i begin to look ?
i plan on recapping the entire radio.
someone has already changed out c186 to a 25volt 220mfd

Re: COBRA 2000GTL PROBLEM
Check your post about "another Cobra 2000GTL" problem. The mic & mic wiring is definitely the main suspect.

Re: COBRA 2000GTL PROBLEM
Sorry dirtyjob, I missed this one, probably waiting for the Cobra Guru's to answer it. Yes it is getting slower now that skip has declined. I would check the cap to make sure it is in right , electrolytic caps are directional. Also check the driver and final transistor, caps, and diode, sounds like it might be dead and what you are hearing on the close radio is the IF stage.

Re: COBRA 2000GTL PROBLEM
Sounds like a dead mic...before doing anything else, try a different mic. If you don't have another 5 pin mic wired for the 2000, just get you a 4-pin to 5-pin adapter so you can use any 4 pin mic that's wired for galaxy and Cobra 4 pin radios...That's what I do with my 2000, I use a adapter so any of my 4 pin mics will work with the 2000.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
