who runs what PS?

I’m curious as to the power supplies you guys are using for these big transistor amplifiers, I have been building a 6 tube 3-500z rf deck and I’m running a plate voltage of just under 4K and my transformer still weighs 91 pounds. Also I forget solid state is all but extinct in the 12v ps world.

My Ameritron ALS-600 has it's own PS which is a 50V switching supply. Only amp I own with or needs a PS.

I don't need anything that big...Instead the basket I put my eggs in, is the antenna...seems to be working too...

Before I moved into the steel I ran a 14.6volt 500 amp regulated supply.

Yea if you can’t hear you can’t transmit effectively. What output transistors run in this 50v power supply? I’m looking into building a amplifier with blfs or something similar and have heard very few reviews on the subject

Wow that ameritron als 600 is a beast. A 25 amp 50 volt power supply if you want a pill box that’s the only way to go. You see these 12+ 2879 amps I’ve even saw a 64 pill and I’ll tell you right now there is nothing I desire about the problems that are associated with powering such an amplifier at such low voltage. A 64 pill say ok the associated hardware is a massive amp if ran efficiently which I’ve never saw that but for argument sake we’lol say it’s 70 percent on 27 MHz ok I am just about done with a 6 tube 3-500z grounded grid amplifier running at 4000v dc to the plate. if I sit the 2 mentioned amps side by side there’s no realm of possibility that that the transistor box on the same output circuit will effectively have around half of the signal and I’ll explain it to you if you would like lol. These transistor amps are sloppy throwed together junk and that’s the end of the story. But these 50 volt triode transistors have amazing efficiency on 10 and 12 meters and I’ll go ahead and say no amplifier is efficient on those bands. These 50volters are going to give the old 0 bias tubes a run for their money. Sorry for the long post and the lack of punctuation. Lol, just read it like one big sentence.

I got one of the last ALS-600 with 2879 (x4) Toshiba's, newer models had the DEI transistors (until they ran out) and I hear they have redesigned the board run the Mitsubishi RD100HHF1. I drive it with about 30w getting 500w out, this is modest but longevity is what I'm after.
Wow,, 6x 3-500Z tubes (back the grid to 3800v, the tubes will love you longer for doing this) with about 100w drive will produce a whopping 8000w, (on paper). Make the PS remote and put it in another room so as not to hear it humming in the background, one of the problems with my old Henry.
