Other skip channels than 6 and 28

Hi everyone, I've only been on the radio about a year. I pretty much gained all my knowledge from my buddy down the street Roadtalker 420. He's been on the radio off and on for years and chooses ch28 as his primary skip channel. I like the battle that is ch6 trying to pull out fellow mud ducks thru all them maul droppers. Whats some other channels to keep an ear on?

And before ssb is brought up... I've barely gathered regular cb equipment. I started with the new bearcat 980, a big stick from the 70s, and a palomar elite 250 running off a ww2 era 12v power supply. I've done some upgrading, I got the siro starduster m400, upgraded the power supply to a pyramid ps-52kx, and switched my 980 with a connex 3300hp. I hate the connex. My tech told me to leave it on d/a high, that turning knobs will get me into trouble with out a freq counter. So because of my lack of experience I will have to wait for ssb. I am looking locally for rack style base like a saturn or a ranger then I can do ssb.

So long post short, what other channels besides 6 and 28 should I look out for.

Thanks

a lot of ssb ers go to 38 lower to make contact then go to 39 0r 37 to hold a conversation. Its fun just to flip around the dial and see who talking.
Keep smiling ...It makes people wonder what your up too !

In my area there is activity on channels 31AM and 35AM, it seems to have died off on 22AM. SSB is always busy here, Channels 38 and 39LSB.
Being between sunspot cycles (24 ending and ramping up for 25), skip is only when the earth passes through a debris bed from an old comet or asteroid, which happens almost weekly.

I have alot to learn. See my buddy always say's mother nature comes and goes and you just got to wish it in lol. I know theres more science behind it I just dont have a grip on what that is yet. I have reading to do.
SSB seems the place to be, but instead of a legitimate ssb radio I had to find this cx-3300 complicated mess. Even if someone walked me thru the operation I'd be worried about hitting someones morse code freq or something and have fcc at my door.

As for as the connex go's, if you stay on the channels 40 above and 40 below the regular CB channels, you really don't have nothing to worry about as for as the FCC go's and stepping on anyone's toes...

Now you said you had a Uniden 980? That has SSB...Just get on LSB channel 38 and see who you can get...

As for other DX channels besides channel 28 and 6, well...."pick one!" ALL the channels can have skip on them when Mother Nature allows... Mater-a-fact, you will come more making a DX contact on some of the other channels besides 6 and 28 if your not running much power, or don't quiet have the lingo down yet...

I've noticed a lot of skip shooting on channel 11 when the band is open. I use channel 6 as a propagation indicator. I'll leave the radio on channel 6 and if I hear people there I'll know the band is open.
