I'm trying to figure out how to install my K40 radio & antenna on my 2005 without drilling visible holes in the console, body, etc. I have a slide mount I can use for the radio and the antenna can use its clamp or magnet base. Just wondering what others have done with this model vehicle.

Why are you worried about drilling holes, it won't change the resale value of a 15 year old car, as a matter of fact it wouldn't change the value of a new vehicle either.

Okay, that said, what kind of slide mount is it? Depending on the radio's size you could just stuff it down between the console and the seat. You could use a magnet mount antenna.

Yes, that is true but I just like a clean low-vis install. The slide is one designed for stereo installs with wires for power and speakers, but I was just going to use it so I could remove the K40 radio when parked. As for the K40 antenna, I'll probably just use its mag mount and position it either at the right rear of the roof in front of the hatch or on my towbar.

I don't think there is any cleaner install than a roof mounted antenna, with a magnet there is always the coax showing and performance is bad using a bumper or receive hitch location.
I used a slide mount on my radios for years, made it easier to switch out radios and like you said to remove when parked. O only used the slides contacts mainly for an external speaker and power of less than 6 amps, radios that required more amperage I used Anderson Powerpoles.

Back in the day, I mounted my antenna, towards the rear of the roof, on my Ford station wagon. That made my signal somewhat directional, towards the front of the vehicle. Helpful, for DX'ing or direction finding. Just a thought.

Yes, with the antenna mounted on the right rear of the roof, the largest lobe of the omni-signal will be over the LEFT front corner of the vehicle. If you mounted your antenna at the middle rear of the Ford's roof then the largest lobe would have been directly over the middle front of the car. In the middle of a car roof the largest lobes will be to the front and rear; only with a perfectly square vehicle would the signal be sent out equidistantly in a circle.

That car has a 2-DIN stereo from the factory...If it were me, I would replace that 2-DIN radio with a after-market single-DIN stereo, then that way you would have space to instal a CB that is also a single-DIN size right under the stereo...

That's what I did in my Tacoma...took out the factory radio, installed a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo, and a President McKinley AM/SSB radio...The CB has a front firing speaker which is perfect for a "In-Dash" install, although I went ahead and installed a external speaker anyway since I already had one...

No holes were drilled, and no wires show...and best of all is if I decide to get rid of the truck, I can take everything back out and reinstall the factory radio and everything will look just like it did when It left Tokyo back in 2001!

Back with an update. My K40 CB seems to have died so I bought a President Bill to replace it. This model comes with its own slide mount so I won't have to reuse the big one I bought for the K40. This CB is even smaller than the K40 which opens up more possible locations.
