Weather and exposed antenna bases
How concerned should I be if I disconnect my K40 hood mounted antenna (1/4 turn twist) from the base to keep it from getting stolen when I don't have a rain cap to cover the exposed base connector?
I searched high and low and K40 apparently no longer manufactures rain caps. Should I make my own cover to prevent rust and a poor connection, or am I worrying about this needlessly?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Weather and exposed antenna bases
Sure thing Joe. With my limited experience
I think you would be wise to make a cover for it.
Sure don't want any moisture getting in there.
JMO, 10/4?

Mike

It's a K40 for peat's sake! No big lose if it gets rust and corrosion!
j/k...stick a baggie over it.

Re: Weather and exposed antenna bases
The "weather cap" didn't do anything anyway, it just made a smooth surface so nothing got caught up in the mount, cheap plastic would fly off at most any speed. My guess it was to keep rain/moisture from coming inside the vehicle when the antenna was roof mounted. I think I have a seal (roof mount donut seal) for one around here somewhere but no caps.

Re: Weather and exposed antenna bases
I have had a K40 mag mount since the came on the market. Like you I disconnected the antenna from the base mount on occassion. Weather did not degrade the performance.
