Sideband bug bit me

Ok, so I’m new to SSB. Turned on 38LSB this morning and made my first contact. I’m hooked! I believe it was 295 or 375 in GA, I didn’t write it down because I was driving. My setup is a Lincoln II plus with a Hustler mag mount on the roof of my F150. Heard me loud and clear. It was a really cool experience!

I bought my first radio in 1965, it was just AM, the second radio was bought in mid year of 65’ and it was SSB. You might can me on AM but that would be few and far between.

I don't hear any LSB activity on 28, it's mainly a AM channel, listen to 38 or 39 LSB, lots more activity there.

im with greg on that one, the 37,38,LSB and then "da bowl" channel 6,
many years ago i was hooked when made contact with australia on a modified tram diamond 60 that had an open clarifier. i was using a home-made dipole, which i found out was a much better antenna than anticipated. horizontal and only 20' off the ground, it was bi-directional, meaning off the side was local and the long way was like a beam.used a sheathed balun coming down the pole.
i could rotate the pole to where ever i wanted to talk. another trick i learned was to be on the radio during "their " time zone popularity and so that meant all times of the night.
many an odd location was reached doing that.
so yes, that SSB bug can really sink its teeth in when you have so much fun. i love it

You will hear most Australian stations on LSB, 35 is the general chit chat channel or unofficial call channel. Second to that is 38, and when international skip is running (in particular from the States) it is the preferred channel. Some like to go up to 41 and 42 to find you there as well.
