Need grounding help
On a mobile setup i recently put together, im getting 2.3 to 2.4 swr readings. My connects are tight, new coax and i grounded the stake mount to the side of my truck bed with a short run of 12 ga wire.
Im wondering if I could use a longer length of ground wire directly to the frame?

Re: Need grounding help
Sounds like you mounted a antenna in one of the stake holes right up next to the cab....
All the grounding in the world will not help you grasshopper....The antenna is just too close to the cab...
Move it to the roof, or to one of the back stake holes and then you will see SWR drop like a rock.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Re: Need grounding help
Give us a little more info like the antenna’s brand, it’s length, where you mounted it, (JJD’s probably right on that), and anything else you did.

Re: Need grounding help
Yup, mounted near the cab. RG8x coax. Stake mount with a Wilson 5000. Used the 5” rod supplied from Wilson to the stud.
Galaxy 95T radio.
Thanks

Re: Need grounding help
if you put it on the roof you will never regret it, unless you go to the carwash or bang into carports, trees, or your wife don't like it ,,, otherwise it's the best omni-position on a pickup and you will gain range & reception

Re: Need grounding help
By using the 5” shaft the antenna now is 5” short, the short shaft is to accommodate a spring. Replace the 5” shaft with the longer one Or get a longer stinger (whip) and check the SWR again.

Re: Need grounding help
Ok, I’ll put the 10” on. I wondered why they supplied two of them. I also have to move the mount away from the cab...and get longer coax!! More parts to buy, but I’ll get it right.
Appreciate the help here!

Re: Need grounding help
I moved the antenna to a stake pocket in the back. Low SWR now. Thanks.jessejamesdallas wrote: July 8th, 2020, 7:53 pm Sounds like you mounted a antenna in one of the stake holes right up next to the cab....

Maybe someday this grasshopper will sent a Soundwave from the sugar maples down to armadillo land!
