Uniden Bearcat 980SSB

I have a Uniden Bearcat 980SSB, new model. This is the second radio I get the first one would not go ON. Sent it back, and they sent me another radio which was working fine. Now this one started when you turn on the power supply the front panel lights up. Then I turn the on, off nob and turn the radio on. The radio don't seam to be working the same.
This is the second radio and not to happy with Uniden.
Has anyone one else have problems with this radio?

I thinking you aren't the only one, I hear complaints about the new Stryker's and Ranger's as well.

Thank you for the response. A few weeks back I purchased a Galaxy DX 949. When I got on the air I was told that I was off Frequency. So that radio was put to one side. I don't have someone in the area that works on them?

Yes, Galaxy radios are notorious for being off frequency right out of the box, especially the SSB models ,but don't think the AM are any better, on the air it is easier to tell on SSB. Not having a shop nearby is a bite, only thing to do is listen to the good sounding locals and find out who is doing their work, could be a hammie or such close.

I have asked several people and they don't know? There is an electronic show I go to to get cable, connectors, but he only works radio that he sells.

I have a 980 in my truck been using it for several months now no problems with it so far.

having 2 of them, they work fine but one has a bad dimming problem, the face completely dim's out to just a blank black display, still works, just cant do anything with it.
your problem sounds like a re-furbished unit, but i'm just guessing.
the 980ssb bearcat by uniden ,
uniden should put out a statement addressing these problems, and fix them for free, otherwise they've shot themselves in the foot.
