Cobra 135 XLR, anyone heard of this one???
A friend found this Cobra 135 XLR in the trash down the street from his house. He plugged it in and it works! I had never heard of this model. Anyone ever own one of these? Is it a classic Cobra Base? Let me know, Thanks

I had one once. It worked great, except my clock didn't work. I traded mine to a cousin when I was into cb's last time about 10 years ago or so. He still has it and hooks it up once in a while. Still going strong. Sorry I can't help you any more than that.

I have one it was my Grandfathers radio in the 70's, and at the time a very high priced radio. With SSB, PA, and a "digital" clock it was top of the line from Cobra.

Hi OneEyedJack
The Cobra 135 was a short lived radio. It had a few inherent problems. Cobra came out with the 139 XLR and then the very popular Cobra 142 GTL.
I would keep it for posterity's sake if for nothing else.

I run a 135 now. I found one that is in great shape. wired a siltronix #7 VFO to expand the frequency range. Its no Yaesu ft 101 but its a great set up.

yup the cobra 135xlr he 40 channel version of the 135, great radios i still have and use one with a d104 mic. always get great reports on SSB with it. mine the clock still works as well as the indicator lights for mode. baught it new it's been in the shop once for finals after all these years. with the proper tune up and alignment by a compentent tech you'll have a great radio. what a great find you have. oh they don't expand with a lot of extra freq's but you at least get a few out of it.

Yes I got lucky with this 135. I use a D-104 as well and also get great reports when on SSB. With the VFO ( Siltronix 80 #7) added I go from Ch. 24 up to 27.700 More than the freq expansion the VFO is much easier (or fun) to operate when scanning for contacts rather than scanning with a channel selector. The radio also has a great receive and a nice tone. I had the Am Xmt which stopped working fixed. No warning signs indicating anything was wrong. It just stopped transmitting. $ 215.00 and a month later it was fixed. Ahh so what, to replace this radio with another I was looking to spend close to the same. I think its cool to run this classic equipment. Im the only guy with a 135 I know of in Denver who still use's this as the everyday radio.
I also have a Siltronix 1011 B in mint condition I found a few years back the is in the orig box.

Cobra started the 135 model in mid 76 and than upgraded (40 channel pll) it in 77 to the 135XLR a few of them came through with a numbered rotary dial, if you find one of them you have a rare radio, got rid of that pesky, noisy clock and added the front speaker in its place. Wasn't a bad radio.

It was built in the 70's. Usually a low output rig, about 7 watts pep. I had one. May still be in the attic. Watch for heat on the power supply transformer for safety!

Man! Does that bring back memories, I had one of those back in the 70's, haven't seen one of those in years.
