How to begin talking skip
What is proper etiquette for entering a channel where people are talking? I have had days recently where I was picking up 10 or so guys on channel 6 talking skip. How does one join in without interrupting or anything?

Channel 6 is the Super Bowl! Those are some big radios they after talking on! They are more than likely a different states than you and when talking skip you just keep your microphone down and call their name and if they hear you then they'll reply.

Re: How to begin talking skip
Unfortunately in skipland you may have to stomp on somebody !! The bigger radio usually wins but other factors do apply !!
Location, wavelength, time of day the local weather and many more variables play a big role in talking skip.
Since you can not control many of these variables just key up or call a specific person and see who comes back to you. If you do make a contact then you may offer the other party to go to a different channel to hold a quiet QSO.
Using upper or lower sideband is also good for skip and makes for more fun operating the radio away from an AM carrier signal. Some radios drift frequency on sideband so you have to always make sure you are on frequency.
Many operators hate a drifting radio but I love it and I think it keeps you on your toes when operating the radio.
Im sure other people here have advice also so I will leave it at that !!
Happy DXing

Well said @Windwalker 1
@RenegadeBird01
It your not running power and want to talk skip. Try a channel like 11, 26, or 28. It's going to be easier to make contact with someone than starting it on channel 6

i am barefoot but have had good results by having clean perfect audio, unlike some of the splatter coming from over-modulating.
and like Windwalker mentioned, a drifting radio, or unlocked clarifier, can get you right in on others by matching their freq.
conditions play the biggest role.
and tongue lube, use plenty of tongue lube,,, jager is a good one

Re: How to begin talking skip
Everyone posting has good advice, if you only want to talk AM mode, find a channel during skip conditions that isn’t crowded and make some shout outs, use your handle or numbers if you have one.
I have loads of fun on SSB, CB is mostly LSB on channels 36 thru 40, plus a stock SSB radio will give you a contact than AM. If you have a little “heat under the seat”, even a better chance. Etiquette can be learned by listening to the others and not feed those causing interference or trouble. Anyway, just have fun, that is what CB is all about.

I wouldn't worry too much about "Interrupting" anything on channel 6... most of the time, unless your pushing 50K watts, no one on channel 6 will even know your there....RenegadeBird01 wrote: Oct 27 2022, 18:42 What is proper etiquette for entering a channel where people are talking? Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
