Help with Tram D201A tubes light up but that's it

Post by adamf »

Hi all, I received a Tram D201A that was supposed to be working and when I turn it on ALL the tubes light up but no power that I see anywhere else, no meter lights light up, so sound, controls appear to do nothing. The radio has 3 fuses a that I see and all are fine. The switch that I believe disables power when you lift up the top lid I suppose has been bypassed as it does nothing and the fact that the tubes light up with top off I believe confirms that? I know this is a stupid question, where can I start? I do believe it was working when shipped, pictures were sent of it all light up. Maybe some kind soul can offer some help. Thanks for any help. I won’t be much help but get a copy of Sam’s Photofacts for it, think it is number “88” but look it up. Just because the lights and tubes are lit doesn’t mean it was actually working. Watch out touching around inside as the capacitors can literally kill you.

Hi Greg, yes, I know enough to not probe around with power on unless I know what I am checking is safe if I am careful. I am hoping a Tram D201A owner may have had the same issue and can give me a guess? Thanks, Adam

Made yourself a grounded probe, (we called them “Salisbury Sticks”back in the day) and touch all the big caps to drain them, be safe!
