on this MK I radio, the distinctive 'beep' is wrong. Normally - on USB this set has a very distinctive 'beep' - it's a quick high pitched descending beep, almost like a ricochet, sounds cool on USB, but on LSB - the beep is ascending, and that's normal.
Problem is - on My radio the beep sounds the same on both USB and LSB and it shouldn't, and even on USB - it doesn't sound right.
Someone told me that as this MK I has the clarifier 'unlocked' it causes this broken bleep, as the unlock clarifier mod removes part of the circuit and screws with the USB and LSB offsets,
I've tried to find a clipped diode, tried to find a missing diode, but i couldn't. i tried moving what i believed to be the correct wire from the slider to the constant 8v line.
can anyone help, i may have to send it to a rig doc, he said he would do it, but it's a lot of hassle just to reverse a simple mod.
Part of the charm of this 40+ year old CB is just the actual beep, i had this exact set when i was a kid.
Any ideas - one LED segment is intermittant too, and there's a dry joint on the PCB too, causing the s meter bulb to dim slightly when tapped,
maybe i should reflow around the 2SA1012 and the other regulator ?
Cobra 148 GTL DX EXPORT MK I PC879 bleep is wrong ?
