Midland 79-893 Mods?

I have a Midland 79-893 and i was looking for any mods or service manuals for it. And is there anyway to bump up the receive? If I hook up my 148 gtl I can pickup a whole lot more granted it's better then the Midland but would like to try something. Thank you
