Texas Star DX1600V / Wilson 5000
Texas Star DX1600V / Wilson 5000
Id like to buy a Texas Star DX1600V. Physically the Wilson 5000 would be ideal because I wont have to worry about it breaking at a drive through without removing it. This is my first amplified setup. My uncle has always run homemade open coil antennas and I can attest to their superior performance. I have no experience with the Wilson 5000 so I was hoping someone could tell me if it would perform well with the Texas Star DX1600V. My current radio is an unmodified Galaxy DX929. Thanks in advance.

Compare the cost and performance to similar EastCoast amps. His handle is mudduck on the forum. There is a chance that you will get more bang for your buck with EastCoast.

If you're talking about a Wilson 5000 magnetic mount, I'd be worried about pushing that much power through it. Ask for further advice.
If you're talking about a Wilson 5000 center load, do yourself a favor and consider the Predator 10K. They have a couple of models. jessejamesdallas is a forum member and a 10K rep. The 10K will outperform the Wilson 5000 center load.

Wow, your starting kinda high up on the ladder!
That man doesn't mess around

Get advice from EastCoast on what amp will work best with that radio. Matching the amp to the radio is very important.
Modifying that radio properly will be important too.
Keep asking, and thinking. You'll need to be very careful to do it right with a setup that big!
Thanks in advance.
You'd be able to run a Wilson 5000 with a TS 1600. When I was younger I ran a 1600 with a 1000 mag for along time.
I'd agree with the above, there maybe much better amps to pick depending on which radio your actially going to use with the amp. I personally favor DaveMade amp, but East Coast or other handbuilt amps are often the better choice. That really depends alot on what radio your actually going to use, and what type of talking you like to do. CBRT members get huge discounts on DaveMade amps sold by myself, and East Coast I know for a fact offers good prices as well. Before you buy a TS1600 work with someone to help you find the right amp, for the right radio.

Supernova you'll do fine with the wilson 5000. I had a wison 5000 roof mount so the coax wouldn't get pinched or cut or exposed to weather. I changed the coax to rg213. Ran a 1x3 into a 8pill and it held up just fine. Is thier a reason for the TS1600?? The only thing I could see is maybe your into SSB and like the AB biasing. If not I'd go with a East Coast/DaveMade/Fatboy style compition amp. More bang for the buck, fan and remote jack. Good Luck..

I have a TS 1600V and it works great, at least until i smoked 8 of the transistors. It was my fault though. I stupidly hooked it up to my Imaxx which had far more than a 1.5 SWR I didnt realize it though until i smelled something burning. I sent it in to the TS repair though and they fixed it with no questions asked. ALL 8 pills that i burned. Even paid the shipping back to me. Thats great service.

They hold up just as long as long as you don't over drive them or volt them constanly. If your into competition then your always going to buy and spending.... If your just an everyday average talker the custom built amp will last just as long.LongShot 878 wrote:What I'm curious of is you can stomp a taxas star all day and it will hold up the handmade boxes Davemade Eastcoast ect can they be used as everyday stompers and not worry about burning a pill or something?
