Help with noob base setup
Ok here is my situation:
I know very little about CB radio, but have always loved using it even as a little kid. I am currently in college in Boston. I live in a dorm building on the 2nd floor. I do not have roof access. I need suggestions on an antenna setup. I could either stick something out my window that isn't too big or install an internal antenna. I saw the double bazooka and it looked decent. Also I would like to keep it reasonably priced.
In case it makes a difference, I currently have a cheap handheld radio, but will be buying a used mobile one soon probably. I built a 12V supply out of a computer power supply that can put out 28A. I may buy a small amplifier at some point, but one thing at a time.
Also a question on the double bazooka, is it alright for multi-band usage? Or are they specifically tailored to a single band?
Thanks a lot guys.

Welcome, underconstruction!
If your building is older and of more "traditional" construction, an interior dipole just might be your ticket. They have worked well for other guys on the forum. My building was built recently (in the last five or ten years) and my apartment is like being in a metal box where RF is concerned.
Dipoles are designed to be a certain fraction of the wavelength of a particular band and work best on that band. You may be able to receive other bands, but the SWR would probably be too high to transmit.
Good luck and let me know if I can help!

Yeah don't order one, build it yourself! I built 2 last night, thay are awesome! 1.0 VSWR from 26.1 all the way up to 27.985MHz with no change! These are some of the coolest antennas I've ever seen. All you need is some coax and 12Ga. wire to build one. PM me if you need more info.Choirboy wrote:Oh, and DO NOT order a Double Bazooka from Radio Wavz! THey have horrible customer service. You can get them almost anywhere.
