Hi yall .. new here.. and to cb's
just got a nice new Cobra 29 WX NW ST and was wondering what i can do to mod it my self if at all possible no on any where remotly close to do it for me all i really want is a echo controll, and talkback, possibly a bit more power than it currently has to push out a bit more someone please let me know waht i can do thank you in advance
yeah it possiably but i do not extacally what turn where lol right now wifd104 i got cobra that will swingover20watts on stock final by the way that will have echoinstalled in but no weather channels
read talk-back 101 postings for your talk back. if you have some old parts electronics you can scrounge up a resistor to make that a go... easy. experiment to get your volume right (on the rear edge of the PCB, connect the grounds of the pa and ext spk on the solder side of the board)
Then, if you wanted you can set it on a switch or a pot for on and off or volume control... you can play with it.
and follow those guys on the echo board... i got a few at 13.00 each plus shipping. However... not much room in there and don't fool with that transistor on the side of the case... i put mine just above it in the same type radio using the dimmer location to set the new controls... careful not to over tighten it or it will break the lighting on that knob area... like i did.
other than that, up to your imagination. I was hoping to use the sound-tracker button as an on off switch for my own talk-back but never got it done. looked like a little too much to fool with. I will be trying it again later though.... hehehe.
anyone know anything about modding that button, lemme know. I would be happy with disabling the sound-tracker altogether. It is fairly useless mobile, i have noticed some improvement with it in a stationary position though, even with non sountrackers talking to me.
Finally, once you have those mods done, you will immediately notice people asking what you did to your radio cause it sounds bigger... IE the echo improves your output without ever touching your finals or adjusting your radio output...
From there, you can get in the new 2SC 1969 finals and set up the power. there are little capacitors that have to be added too. if you are decent at soldering, and also have the right stuff... iron, electronics solder, vacuum bulb or the like the remove old solder... then you can swap the final and the driver out, again available on eBay, or better yet at some electronics supply on-line. Its about a medium difficult job. not for a total beginner, but someone with moderate skill can pull it off. One thing of major importance, if you get the transistor legs too hot, dead. that's why i suggest the vacuum bulb to remove the old solder. that will also help protect your PCB.
