If financially able I would just buy another antenna or return the one you have for a replacement ,if you've gone through ALL of the steps to check coax, connectors, grounds ect... it has to be something wrong with the antenna itself. If the old antenna that you had on had a good SWR reading I would put it back on if you cant get the swr down on the 5000,a swr at the reading your getting could really harm your radio......

I agree. Sounds like that Wilson has "Bit-the-Big-One"...One thing about the Wilson's. They use to be good antennas, but since they got bought out by Barjun (how ever you spell their name), and they started making them I believe in Mexico. The quality has gone down hill.

I had one a few years ago, that I never had a problem with...Until it walked off the back of my Suburban at a shopping mall.

But, then later on, like I said before, I bought a couple 2 or 3, and they didn't last no time at all, before I lost ground in them, and swr did like yours, and went through the roof!

Well, going back to the fact that the swr was lower on channel 40 than channel 1, I'd say you just need to start trimming the bottom of the whip. Obviously, the antenna is resonant at a higher frequency. This really should have been done before the coax was changed. It's common to have to trim the stinger to bring the bandwith of the antenna down to 11M.

Been there, done this, and it's normal.
Channel 32, or sometimes 33 and or 34......

If the swr meter is like he said, "Pegging the needle", you can trim or raise the antenna all you want, it's not going to help, because there is a loss of ground somewhere. Even if the antenna was 2 feet too long, you wouldn't see swr over 4.0 ( more like somewhere around 2.5...maybe)

Well...If the Predator 10K is just "Out of the question" for you...And you just like the "Look's" of the Wilson's. You could try a K40...But, Like the Wilson's, they "Use to be" good antennas also...But I have herd that they too now, have some issues...

Thats the problem with some of these "Mass-produced" type antennas...They start making them either over-sea's or in Mexico, to keep cost down, and next thing you know, quality starts taking a nose-dive.

With Antennas like the Predators, or even the Mr.Coily's, they are not mass-produced, and are each hand made, by the owner's of the company's. Dan makes the Mr.Coily, and will stand behind each antenna he makes and sells...

Kale, makes the Predator 10K, and like Dan, stands behind his.

Either of these two antennas, if you have any kind of problems with them, all you have to do, is pick-up the phone, and give them a call, and you'll get service that is second to none! Because you will be talking to the designer, and builder himself.

If the Wilson was new and it was screwed up, I'd take it back to where I bought it and get either a replacement or a refund. There's no sense in you eating what you paid for it, and you paid for a working antenna. If you don't want a big awkward antenna, I'd just get another Wilson. I've had 2 of them, always had a flat match, excellent performance and they easily take the abuse an antenna gets on the roof of my 4X4.
