Why LSB?

#40217

Post by BigBubbaBD »

Looking forward to finally getting the chance to try out SSB. Heard some people really like it, and when skip is rolling sometimes Sideband makes it out further. But ill form my own opinion of that. Im very excited to try it and learn the in's and out's about it.

Any Sideband guys out there got any pointers? Or techinques/suggestions?

And my topic question. WHY LSB?
Just about EVERY post ive ever read, or any time Ive ever heard anybody talk about side band ist LSB. "yea we talk on 38LSB" or 39LSB..
Is there any reason it seems everybody talks on the LSB's of channels and not the uppers? Or more than the uppers?

And adjusting the "clarifier" does not bother my radio at all correct?.. I mean adjusting it does not effect AM performance RX or TX correct? Im not going to misalign myself on AM will it?
And on Sideband, it only fine tunes what I hear correct? And does not change my broadcast?

Thanks
SSB Newbie

Some clarifiers change TX and RX. Check your radio specific design. Local CB / Ham shops may help you with contacts in your area. Some Ham's may frown on operating with no license. Maybe the internet can help you with "freebander" clubs in your area?

I tried to do some digging for you. This is the best I could find with the little time I had.

"2 Stage Clarifier Control
You will also find the clarifier has been expanded to include a separate coarse and fine tuning for above and below the selected frequency that provides the ability to precisely select the clearest signal for improved reception under difficult conditions."

I think the reason why CBers use LSB is because HAMs use LSB on all frequencies above 40 meters [7 MHz or so] So a HAM talking on SSB would be on USB on 12 meters and 10 meters, so CBs go on LSB to avoid them.

Yea that makes perfect sence but are hams on 11meter sideband talking? I could see if you went on some ham freqs staying on LSB to get out of there way but I guess its just habit to stay on LSB even on 11 meter?

Oh well, I dont care just curious.

many cbers talk out of band, and being on the "wrong" sideband keeps anyone from even hearing your signal. Besides that it's just tradition. That's where people are, so that's where people operate.

The big question why lsb,has been answered. The question are the hams on cb,Where I live 87% of the radios on the freeband are hams.Usb is used mostly by the spanish countries,So lsb is the one to use.27,555.oo is all usb all the time for why,I don't know. Any,good CBing to you......RC 2SF137

Most hams are not on the CB [11 meters], but there are ham bands on 10 meters and 12 meters which surround the CB band.

First off, no, amateurs use LSB on frequencies below 10 MHz and USB for frequencies 10 MHz and higher. However, your right about the second part. Amateurs would use USB on 10 and 12 meters, but you totally lost me when you say CBers use LSB to avoid amateurs. It makes absolutely no sense...unless you're talking about those clowns out there that feel they should operate in amateur bands without a license. And even then, it doesn't make sense because you can still hear a station on LSB when you're on USB. You just can't tune them in.

Mexicans and Amateurs use USB so LSB is left for us to use.

The guy was right with what he said, amatuer use LSB ABOVE 40 mtrs..
40mtrs 7mhz, 80mtrs is 3.5mhz to yes you are going above..

but to be honest the international calling frequency has always been 27.555 USB (bloody italians !!)
it's only the US that use LSB in the 40 channel block you have..
most of europe use USB, and some of the lower blocks it's USB and FM..

even super low 26.285 is USB..

i think we use USB as was already said,
amateurs use USB at 14mhz and above so keep with tradition..

i don't have a clue why you use LSB !!!!
