Off Frequency?

Got 3 radios. A 2950, 6900f150, and a hr2510. I have been talking with some guys on 57 on the low side and no matter what radio I am on they tell me I am off frequency. They tell me to fgo up and when I do they say it is worse and when I go down they tell me it is better. How can I really tell if it is off frequency without having a bunch of test equipment? How often should you have a radio aligned?

Whats the Freq display show?? I would send one to Al @ Sparky's for alignment, he is out of town until Thursday, Alignments don't cost a lot at Sparky's, tell him you are a forum member, and fast turn around, then talk to the same guys and see if that cured your problem,,,,my opinion, when so many radios are converted to 11 meter, they should be aligned, and most techs don't thats why there are so many out of freq radios

If it is happening on all three radios, there is a good possibility that it may be there radio and not yours. If you find out that it is your radio especially the 2510, send the 2510 to Doc at Doc's electronics. He is the only guy in the US that specializes in those radios. Of course there are plenty of Tecs around but none I would trust more.

I think that this guys are running a standard cb with the clarifier unlocked. From what I understand that when you unlock the clarifier that it is not like a 10 meter that has been converted. They tell me that I need to come up and when I do they say it is worse but when I go down they tell me it is better. I don't think eihter radio is off I think it is the difference between the radios. Is that a possiblity?

Is there any other way to tell if your off frequency like by attaching a frequency meter on the radios output side to the antenna?

Get a frequency counter, and a good one, not a CB type, as they can be as bad..

try and get one thats been set up on a standard so you can gurantee it's right..

also don't forget AM and FM will be the display frequency..
LSB or USB will be 1.5Kc different to AM and FM..
so 27.100 Am/FM and 27.098.5 LSB and 27.101.5 USB..
with the correct tone injected into the mic, (i think 10hz)

failing that sell the lot and get a HF set...100w and more than not pretty much on frequency, (unless it's from your local CBer that uses a shovel as a screwdriver)

About what can you expect to pay for a descent meter?

In the US not sure,
but UK prices range from around $60 to over $150..
some of the CB types are ok, but not really 100% acurate, but for a 200hz they'll do..

can you not just take each rig to a radio repair shop, not a CB repair shop, but taxi, business two radio place ??
they'll have good gear and if all you want is a check, i'm sure they could do it for cheap..
