For keydowns I have the poor man's 18 volt system.......I run a 12 volt battery in the tool box with a 6 volt in series. 200 amp alternator feeds the 12 volt system only. I just change over the 4 pill power wire from battery to battery depending on how many volts I want.
Because I rarely run 18-20 volts will the 6 volt trickle charge if not used? I was told it would so I bought an Optima red top 6 volt.
Will the 6 Volt Trickle charge?

No, you will have to run an inverter and plug a 6 volt charger into it to keep it up. Otherwise when the 6 volt loses its charge, you will have to disconnect it. That 18 volt system works great for a 3 pill, but don't put a bigger box on it unless you get some way to keep the volts up on the 6. Personal experience on this one. Tried putting a hammer out there with a 12 pill(1446). Drained the 6 volt quick or maybe it was the 16(2879).
