I have been out of the CB world for many years...but just got back in to it. I have some what I suspect is alternator whine. I have separate hot and ground wired directly to my battery. Is there some thing I can do?

Thanks much.

All installations differ but try to keep all leads as short as possible and or use feed through caps on the lines. You can also try try a choke/capacitor kit like rat shack used to sell but increase the cap size 10 fold to help reduce the noise.Improved grounding sometimes helps as well.Usually its a combination of all of these. And some vehicles are much worse than others so experiment.

Pull your Whip if ya can, and leave the coax run, if it goes away it is coming thru the antenna.....Somthing on the vehicle is radiating it.

or Pull the coax at the radio if it is still there probably power line noise.

I have it coming thru my antenna and the only way to make it go away is if i pull my engine fuse...hehehe...but then the engine dont run ..geez

Computer is spewing it or somthing, not heard on transmit though, only
gives me less recieve with the engine running...I guess I could shield the computer but it could be the computer, injectors, smog etc..

Fuel pumps can cause it also. I live with it and adjust the squelch.

The 7.99 pyramid filter that Walcott sells doesn't work. or it hasn't worked for me. i tried to use it in my pickup and in 2 different semis and didn't make a bit of difference.

That makes perfect sense to me. Pyramid can't make a car audio amplifier that doesn't have engine noise.

I was just reading about injectors possibly causing it, I am going to try clip on ferrites
when I can scrounge up 16 of them 1 for each pos and neg wire on each injector.....

I did try one on each spark plug wire w/ no difference, but didnt think about the injectors.

geez shot in the dark but......i never have luck with those magnet looking thingys doin anything much.....

Just out of curiosity what kind of antenna are you running? Is it a magnet or a bolt on type? How old is the vehicle? Is the alt. original? It could be the brushes in the alternator are going bad or are dirty. Use a good electrical cleaner specifically for cars. NAPA, Autozone and the rest have it. You may just have to spray it. Also check the grounds in the vehicle. Maybe one of the grounds from the engine block to the frame has corrosion on it. Might be surprised if you check all connections too. A loose or corrodes hot or ground will cause lots of problems.
