Which can I handle?

Post by Becker »

I'm looking at amps from east coast. My truck (98 ranger 3.0) has a 95 amp alternator, according to the autozone website that is. I'm looking at a 1x2 pill 1x2290/2x2879 or a 4 pill 4x2879 the 1x2 draws apprx. 45amps while the 4 pill draws apprx 60 amps. I was wondering if I could run the 4 pill without upgrading anything.

Becker,

That should be fine. I've ran car audio amps that large in those trucks a lot and they've been fine. Keep in mind that amp is only gonna draw 60 amps at max swing. Look to see if your head lights dim when you key up. If it is really bad, then I'd upgrade the battery.

you're talking about the 4 pill right Shaft? Also would a galaxy 929 run that four pill on its own?

Yes, I meant the 60 amp 4 pill.

Shouldn't be a problem with the 929, but I'm sure there are other guys on the forum that can answer that better than I can.

you can get an alternator shop to squeeze a few more amps out of your stock alternator..

you would be surprised how much draw your vehicle can have on the electrical system..

a 1x2 would work fine.. but a 1x4 might be too much, causing you to
drop volts when talking..

you could also look into finding a replacement alternator for your vehicle..

i ran a 2 pill driving an eight pill in my ranger when i had it with an extra battery and it did about 800 but the batery light would come on when i keyed up so a 4 pill should be fine it would help if you had an extra battery.
