just wondering is there that much of noticible difference in running a davemade amp at 14 volts or at 16 volts, and if so what combination in batteries to run a 16 volt charging system?

For audio systems we've built we used 2 8 volt golf cart batteries wired in series.

To run in series you take the negative of one battery and run it to the positive of the other battery. That will leave you with 1 positive terminal and 1 negative terminal. See this example.

Ignore the voltage ratings of that, but you get the picture. To obtain 16 volts you will need to series wire 2 8 volt batteries. If you want to run more than those two batteries then you will need to do this....

Only run them in multiples of 2. Series wire 2 8 volt batteries to give you a 16 volt battery pack. For each 16 volt battery pack you would then wire in parallel. That means you will run the positive terminals together and the negative terminals together. DO NOT use the terminals that are seriesed to another battery.

You will also need to run a dual battery isolator for your charging battery because the vehicle's electrical system will not handle 16 volts.

thanks shaft for the feedback but I would be hooking up a separate alternator to charge the 16 volt set up, that would work also correct?

Im planning on using my stock charging system to run my 5 pill driver and the other to run my 16 pill hamma

Now i read somewheres on here that to obtain the 16 volt charge you will have to regulate the charge to 18 volts?
If so how many volts can you safely get out of 2 8 volts hooked in series?

The reason i ask is there is a local guy here that says he has a 12 and a 6 volt battery run this way and to me that
equals 18 volts but he claims he is gettin 22-21 volts out of it HOW DOES THIS WORK? or is he blowin smoke

you run 6v and an 8v in series and charge at 16v.
