External Scanner Antenna

#74651

Post by nightwatcher »

Okay, so here is the low down...I am in the market for a new external outdoor scanner antenna. It cannot be TOO huge, as it shares the mast with my base station CB. I need to have something that will cover all bands, including 800MHz digital audio. I am using a 1 1/4" pole as my mast. I have been looking at something similar to this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayIS ... &rd=1&rd=1

it looks similar to the antenna that radioshack sells for about $80. Does anybody know how well this particular antenna will work, or have any suggestions. I would like to stay around the $50 mark. I am looking to pick up several channels that are approximately 45-50 miles away. Thanks!

A friend of mine has that Antennacraft antenna and he likes it. I'm using a cheapie Hustler wire discone ($23 if I remember correctly) around 30 ft. high and have no problems receiving 50-60 miles on any band. Just my $.02............. :)

Hey 316,

That is very much what I am looking for. I bought one much similar to that on eBay, about the same size, but has a little wider bandwidth on it. Here it is. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayIS ... :IT&ih=017 I think it should work nicely. I will be sure to let you know. Thanks!
