So wait...you chill on a hill all day relaying information? Not to make u sound silly or sad or anything...
Haha thats too funny. No, dont worry about it , you did no such thing...
Hey I think thats great. It can be a big help to truckers and if you enjoy it then do it all you can. There used to be some ladies and a young man in a wheel chair in the Sacramento Ca. area on base stations doing the samr thing and giving out directions to all the places that drivers needed. GOOD FOR YOU!! Keep it up.

Back in the day I would be on 36 thru 38lsb and 535,555usb made some really good contacts there. 16 seems to be the main AM rag chew around here.

wifi wrote:I hate when operators will start rag chewing on 38 LSB when skip is rolling in. And its annoying when operators talk AM on 36-40. Dont get me wrong I am far from a conformist but 36-40 should be reserved for SSB.

Ohhh and 909wis. Where I am from channel 22 is the local superbowl. Guys down in baltimore crank power down there and 22 is there stomping , hand holding channel. I guess every area is different.
I agree you should use it for a calling channel and then jump out 10, 20 or 30 khz to talk. :r&r:

28, 34, and 38 AM, dont get on SSB much, thats too easy!!! JK, I dont even attempt the bowl anymore, those boys rolling in the big body suburbans with the 1KW and motor mauls are killing it on the bowl, not worth wasting my breath.

I've been trying with 38LSB, but without an amp and so many powerful stations, I doubt anyone can hear me in the mobile... I really need to get a base antenna and try... I don't run an amp or anything, just a bone stock DX949 that has the power turned up... I'm running 18 watts on AM, no clue on SSB as I don't have a meter and my meter pegs at 18 watts... I know if I turn my RF power all the way down on AM I put out 12 watts, maybe I should try that on SSB and see if it registers...

On a 949 with the RF power tuned, your probably swinging in the region of 35 on AM and I am not sure on SSB. You can get an RFX75 kit for that radio, its a small black box that mounts to the back of the radio and makes it dead key about 30 and swing to 90-100 on AM and at least that on SSB. They are inexpensive also, but you do have to have a tech install it, one of our sponsors could do that for you!!
I have a DX959 with the RFX kit and I love it!!

I stay on 24 for the most part. Its also the main local channel and most locals are very good about sharing the waves. When skip rolls in, its easy to chat without all the "national" traffic. Aometimes i venture to 11, 28 and where ever I find good operators talking.

Looking at some polls the forum had, this one I didn't post to so now I am. I am a SSB'er at heart so channels 36 through 40 are my frequented channels, since I'm a hammie, I do a lot of the ham bands as well!

On AM definitely CH28 but in the past couple of years it has become more and crowded so I have been bouncing around different channels. After a long hiatus from sideband I'm back in and ready to go. Next time skip rolls in I'll be floating around CH36 thru CH40 lower side.

On the rare occasion I get on 11M its 28SSB for me. With my TRC-450, yep, still bone stock, not even a power mic. Love that radio.
