Thanks Genesbro!
Found a cross reference and indeed that will work. Called the 2 local Radio Shacks and neither carry it in stock. Will order on-line...

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
Genesbro, Polish Eagle ...
Random thoughts ...
The IMAX 2000 is a nice antenna-easy to put up, much better quality than 30 years ago.
The old HiGain shorted out during a 15f rain/ice/snow storm two weeks ago ... Do I hear Laughter from New Jersey? Anyway, I like the IMAX.
The Washington is stock for now ... Down the road, will send it out for performance tune up and have it set up for a little heat. At the moment, just making sure equipment is top quality.
I found a 7dcv battery for my mic. @ Batteries Plus (Six in New Jersey) ...
Unfortunately, I can't hit the "Grey Line" when it hits. I'm either going to or coming back from work ... Too lazy to get up early on weekends.
Can get a few 12-15 mile contacts on 19am with only 4.5 watts.
Best Regards,
DR in Dallas

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
Glad you found a batt for the mic. All my older antennas that had been used got other homes (kidnapped/stolen). I had kept an old super scanner brand new in the box and I guess it was too complicated for those that took the others and I finally got that up after running a dipole for a month or two. I sure like the super scanner, too bad it is no longer being made. I did find a guy that finds them and refurbishes them and then sell them for, wait sit down, 500 dollars. Have fun and keep on talking.

What makes you think you'll ever hear someone on SSB running on Channel-23? Back in the day, when 23-channel radios were the norm, Channel-16 was the SSB channel for both LSB and USB.likes2grill wrote:Since I only have an old sears ssb 23 channel I try every channel on USB and LSB but try to stay up on 23 the most. 1394 in the sunshine state said that.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
You can also MAKE this battery, by taping cheap dollar store watch batteries together! The lazer pointer style batteries, stack them together 5 of them, and roll together with a layer of electrical tape, and yer talkin' on the cheap!genesbro wrote:Had the same problem with a road king mic, found this batt at radio shack and it works! Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
I'm getting set to join this SSB party myself. Just sold off some old stuff to fund the purchase of a Galaxy DX-959 for the truck and will likely start looking for a base station as well. Considering what I've heard about SSB and the initial start-up cost versus ham gear I figure I can't really go wrong. Hell, even the wife is onboard with a base, antenna on the chimney and all.
As an aside, I do feel the idea of a "dedicated" CBRT channel is a good one. If nothing else it'll put voices to the screen names and provide contacts with at least a minimal amount of familiarity.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
I started out with my first sideband rig...it was a cobra 138 XLR with a D-104 mic and had a starduser base antenna on the roof. Loved it!

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
This topic started in 2007 and is making another round , I didn't know it was dying , lol , I read an article in an electronics magazine ( [Please login or register to view this link] ) some time back that said that CB was dying , boy did that writer ever get his wires crossed . CB is alive and well and SSB is better than ever .

Might be fun to have a calling channel set aside on Saturday or Sunday morning .REDDOG45 wrote:I second the idea of a cbrt ssb frequency.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
SSB is mostly all I talk on these days, sometimes 19AM for road trips, an between commute to work and home, 38LSB, but lately there's been a bunch of @'holes that like to tx door bell/tarzan/day after day after day noise toy BS all day long when skip is rolling. I get so frustrated that I shut off the radio. In the mobile I run an HR2510, D104M6B (sometimes a 575M6B)+wilson 1K, and at home my trusty TRC 457 with a Turner +2ssb mic, or my other 2510 with a Turner +3.
I agree, there should be a CBRT calling ch.

Re: PLEASE KEEP SIDE-BAND ALIVE!!!
Everybody seems to stay on 38lsb and it's a pileup here in Oregon, I'd like to hear some people on other frequencies.
