Hey Lost Ram, snap a pic of that mic and post it, looked all over the net and can't find a pic, never seen one before. I know it's the mobile version of the Expander 500 desk mic, found the specs but no pic. Thanks.

A neat little president AR-7. A customer bought it off an auction site and brought it in the shop. It didn't have a microphone with it so I built one to fit the 5 pin din. The radio checked out and I got paid for the work. That was last week. Friday night I was talking to him on the local channel and mentioned that I really liked that little radio and if he wanted to sell it I was interested. He told me that he had a Wilson 5000 mag mount he needed put on top of his chimney on the steel rain plate. Well to make the story short, I went over and climbed up the ladder to the roof and slapped the antenna down on the plate, climbed back down hooked it to the mfj meter swr was 1.3:1 on ch1 1.6:1 ch 40, x=0 and r=46. Whole process took about 20 min. and I got a free pres. AR7 plus the $ I made off the repair. Man if only every deal could be so sweet.

And I forgot to mention that it is in like new condition. I believe it has only been hooked up once or twice. The so-239 on back is still tight. The cig. lighter plug isn't scratched up from constant in and out. Overall just a cool little piece.

Yesterday I finaly scored the new power supply. Its an IOTA 75a rv battery charger/ converter. $150 used but worth every dime. Can finaly use high gear on the box. Expected more watts on hi but avg. 400 or so and 350ish on low.

Scored some more goodies on the cheap. Two sticks of Rohn 25 tower $12. Actualy did a radio clean job, got all the smoke stains from who knows how many years of cigarette smoke off an old President Zachary T and cleaned/ lubed the controls. Took about 2 hours but it was time well spent. Told the guy $12 for the work and he said "cool. And hey I'm never going to use these two sticks of tower you can have them if you want them". I told him Yes sir And why don't we just forget about the $12 and call it an even trade. I also scored a pre amp from a friend on the free. It's a communications power inc. range plus. As a pre amp it works but has some crazy issuses. SWRs are stupid if you key up with it on, and the relay chatters bad. Popped the skirts off it and found 2 burnt resistors next to the relay. One I could identify and replaceing it was no problem. The other one is to far burnt to identify. The first band was either brown or purple and the rest disentgrated. I could use it as is but would have to turn it off to key and am to lazy for that so its headed for my museum until I can figure it out. Also got a Midland 1001z for helping a guy sell an amp. Looks great works ok but will probably trade or sell it to someone who just wants a pocket radio for their mobile. May put it in the museum too don't know yet as its kinda new for my collection/ museum and I don't need it for anything that I can think of yet so its fate is questionable.

the Tennessee Highway Patrol is now using APCO 25 so I had to upgrade my scanner. today I purchased a bearcat BCD436HP.
it's supposed to be easy to program but right now it's giving me fits until I can figure it out. I've had about every scanner ever made and every time a new one comes out its hard to program at first but usually after a day or so its easy to figure out. but this one is the hardest so far. the Gre Com scanners started using the object oriented programming which at first was confusing but after a while it was really better. I'm hoping that this scanner after a day or so will turn out a little more simple to use too. anyone else have one?

A young fella had a Solarcon A99 for $60.00.
I e-mailed him with an offer to trade an old "Lakeside" vise that I reconditioned. His answer was call me.
Ended up trading $20.00 for it.

Are ya using the software for programming ? I dont have that model butfind using a scanners software is the easiest route when it comes to programming, looks like a great scanner.
I wish they all were still on analog, I personally think they sounded better, at least my local police sounded better then , now they are hard to understand at times audio quality wise.

I'm starting to figure it out now...regular trunk tracking scanners are a breeze though compared to this. I'm not using the software haven't dived in that deep yet. but it does come with internal software that lets you type in your zip code and loads your area. it has a 4 gig memory card which is new to me in scanners. it also only uses 3 AA regargable battery's. which makes it hard to charge in an external charger because they usually have to be in pairs when you charge battery's in chargers. the ones I have anyway. New scanners vs old? I m old school I like programming it in the palm of my hand. tag the channel or ID and go with it. I still have the original trunk tracker and several after it and enjoy them all. just got to get used to the new technology. and you're right the new digital systems kill the sound of the radios. sounds like a compressed dull sound compared to analog. I'd say in another week I'll have it mastered and like it better but for now it's a learning process. looks to be a good scanner. wouldn't have gotten it if the highway patrol hadn't changed to apco 25 phase 2.

I think it was $464.00 or close to that amount. not a bad scanner I'm learning it a little better now that I've played with it a little while. it's just hard to get used to the technology when you've been using the older type for so long. This Apco 25 is a whole different animal than analog programming wise and listening wise. I guess the best way to describe this scanner is its not like a scanner it's more like a handheld computer with scanning capabilities. when I lived in Leeds many moons ago you had one frequency to monitor for the police department and it was 460.050 Boy these things have changed over the years.

pre programmed with the entire country plus Canada in the database. you just pick out the ones you want and then put them in a list. pretty simple once you pull all of your hair out trying to program it the traditional way. someone new to scanners would probably understand the concept better because they've never been around the older scanners so they would have a more open mind. it's a whole different type of technology.

2 more sirio turbo 5000 antennas for spares. bent the whip on mine. not trees or bridges the storm door caught it. joe at DNJ said they are being discontinued and he won't be getting anymore but there are still making the performer 5000. so I snagged his only one (display) with a good discount and one from the KY store.

Just bought a president Grant for 80 bucks. It works, has some channel kits and appears to be somewhere from the 80s. I know nothing about Pres. Grants, did I pay too much? The faceplate is missing some paint around the edges and you can barely make out the Grant over the ch. select and President under it. It appears to be unmolested other than the channel kit, wich consist of 3 toggle switches going to diferent pins on the PLL chip. Havent decided wether to keep the extra channels or not but will for now. I also need to find the meter for it as the one in it is stuck about on 2. The radio keys close to four and swings to 6 or so. 73s Karl
