Yeah, nice gear. Bet it's worth more than my truck ... probably my house too. Hey, do you get into (skip) Salt Lake much with that Kenwood? It's pretty much a straight shot from Sheridan and especially into my antenna in Herriman. Also, how do you like your solar set up? is it adequate for your needs?
Also, are you really Walt Longmire?
If so, you need a setup like that in your cabin, one in your truck too. Or, you could get a cell phone.

Nope on Longmire, I'm just another retired veteran who tinkers with radios.
Longmire....he would not make it up here in Wyoming.

Howdy,
I am just getting back into radio after many years away. I just got a President McKinley SSB and will be doing a dipole and a TRAM BROWNING 1499 NO GROUND PLANE CB RADIO BASE ANTENNA 500 WATTS to put up.
In the basement I have a vintage Kris 23+ with added channels I am going to dig out and have gone over soon, as well. The big stick and a D-104 lolipop
goes with that rig.
From Southcentral PA in Lititz this is Blue Ox2, how do you do?

A few new things TS-570d needed work an advantest SA and a R&S generator
That's some SERIOUS GEAR!! *WOWW!!* Beautiful.
Must have set you back a few!
I bet that Kenwood sure sounds awesome!
Thanks: the 570d sounds good, it took lightning hit but was repairable and the R&S and the advantest SA make alignments and checks for spurs and such so easy just pump the radio into my diy sampler and that is it. I put out some bucks for them but worth it to me.
A few more pieces I picked up:
Eagle 5000 under the Kenwood
Instek dual display meter
Instek scope
Tektronix arb signal generator
B&K power supply

Hey Rabbit Ears,
Tell me a little more about your solar setup. I've got one partially set up out in the Utah desert but really I'm relying on a battery bank that charges up every time I run the big generator. I'd like to get a lot of the small stuff out there (like the radio shack) on solar this Spring. So knowing what you've done and how it works would help me a lot. Thanks.
Also, If Longmire (or at least his CB'n sidekick, Ferg) had that kind of equipment, don't you think he'd stand at least a little chance in Wyoming?

I recently got a Uniden PC68XL from my dad. It was new in the box, but had been the shelf a long time. It ad a flyer in the box encouraging membership in the National Citizen's Band...which no longer exists?
Anyway - I attached an Imax 2000 to a fence post and hooked up the PC68XL in the shop with a 12v power supply. I was surprised at the amount of activity it picks up on channels 6 and 19. Especially on clear & sunny days.
Hopefully when the weather cooperates I can get the Imax 2000 mounted up on the peak of the roof.

His buddy would with his beautiful Cobra 2000 and D-104 *and more* would. The series was filmed in New Mexico *arrgh!!*
Why not here in North Central Wyoming??? Are our accommodations really that bad??? Shucks no!! *Self censored.....censored!.....damn!* Here is where the sportsmen and sports ladies come from all around to hunt and fish! Some of the finest lodging available. What a question!!
Right now I'm running a pair of 130 watt solar cells through a Prostar 30 charge controller with two AGM golf cart batteries wired in series. A Samlex 2500 pure sine wave inverter as backup power for our trailer. Works great during power outages and sunny days (going off-grid).
Works great!!

Thanks for the Solar info. We don't have the needed equipment yet but we're working on it. I'll probably have more dumb questions and observations for you once we get further into it.
Yeah, sorry about the Longmire thing. Seems no matter where a film or TV series is set, they always film it somewhere else. Makes no sense to me. It's probably a lot to do with Politics and Money more than anything else. Years ago they filmed a season of "Walker, Texas Ranger" up here in Utah. I think one of the episodes was actually set in Utah but the rest were in Texas. I work all over Norther Utah in some pretty remote areas and when the film crew was here, I ran into them on at least a half dozen occasions and it was always a hassle. They'd have their semis and equipment trailers everywhere and didn't mind blocking roads, even state highways for hours and most the drivers and managers I talked to were arrogant jerks. I got hung up for almost 2 hours when they closed a highway to park all their rigs on it and left no exit from the canyon up in what they call "Thousand Peaks Ranch". I got upset with one of their honchos when he was nothing but rude, crude and stupid. I was so ticked I called the county Sheriff when I got into cell range and found out they didn't have a permit, had no right to even be on the land they were on and that technically they were in violation of several laws. But the dispatcher told me they were dropping a lot of money locally so we ought to let it slide.
A week later I came across them filming scenes up on what they call "Bonanza Flat" where several dirt roads intersect between Park City, Midway, and Brighton Ski resort. Apparently they'd tried to close those roads too but the Sheriff there (different county) sent up some deputies to make sure they didn't. Instead, they put up signs telling, not asking all motorists to drive slow and quite through the production area. I thought they deserved a little Karma so I parked up on the summit and watched. Whenever they started filming, I'd start honking my horn or shouting out random directions on my P.A. and they'd have to stop. Then I drove through the set a time or two stirring up a lot of dust. The same guy who told me to shove it when I was stuck a week earlier got together with the Sheriff and pulled me over but I explained what they'd done to me the previous week and I was giving them a little pay-back. I asked the Sheriff If I was breaking any laws and he said "nope, do whatever you want, these guys will just have to deal with it". Then he told the production manager to get out of my face and his too! Apparently, there'd been a lot of complaints and the Sheriff wasn't too happy with them either. He told me later he'd considered doing the same thing I was doing only with his siren just to bug them. We had a good laugh and I took off. I was a little disappointed they didn't just send out Chuck Norris to threaten me.
When they do another action Drama on some detective in Montana, they'll probably come film it in Utah or Wyoming and we'll feel better about things.

I have a new mini mobile radio coming in this Thursday, a QYT KT-8900D dual bander with quad band stand by. I might also be getting a new weather proof (IP67 rated) HT from Sain Sonic/Baofeng the GT-3-WP model. When is the next VE or VEC exam test date? PM when you get a chance, I'll give you my call sign and send you a QSL card if you give me your address. Correct me if I'm wrong is that a DMR mode or D-Star radio?

Yes it's D-STAR capable. No digipeater function though. The Kenwood TM-D710G I received yesterday for the truck has that capability. I'll get it put in the truck this evening. Well, mostly. Waiting on the Lido mount for the head unit.
Both can be modified to expand Tx frequency range. The HT has a WIDE receive range that makes it nice for scanning. When work has me driving out of town and back for the day I can listen for wrecks on 27.185 in the company vehicle. (No permanent mount radio)
