Battery ???

Can you hook up a standard cranking batt in line with a optima yellow top? I have the yellow top under the hood and want to add another batt in the back.
I was told that I need to run another gel cell, is this true?

yes this true i have seen other setups with mixed batts and they had some issues with there charging system after awhile

Well with that said can I run a optima red top in the back or would it be better to run another yellow top? I have a 2x4 that I want to get more power too.

im really no expert on batteries but if i had one optima , i probably wouldnt mix in a standard cranking battery. i got a group 27 standard cranking battery under the hood and i put a group 31 inline also but it is a standard cranking battery to. works fine and the ol dave made 2 by 4 dont even make the lights dim. :D

go with two more yellows that's what i have on a 2x4 ad it works good for me

Thanks guys, I have a guy I can get the yellow tops from real cheap so that's what I'll do.

good deal on getting matching yellow tops.i use to think (from being told from another forum before i came across this one)that red tops were the best but after experiencing 4 of them die on me after 2 years at once in my mobile the yellows are better like alot of members have said here before.

Will I need to replace my stock alt or will it be fine for the extra batts in the back of my excursion?

Na just make sure they are fully charged and you hold be it couldn't hurt but you don't have to

wellllll, if you are a person that wants it all in a perfect world.....then yeah run all the tires the same brand.....but when things are tight, yes you can mismatch....just please don't do this with shoes..lol



we mismatch all the time....even mismatch volts too..some 12volts, some 8 volts, and some 6 volts, and some are different cranking amps and brands...

but yeah if you have the extra money, buy all the same and look good with it...

you guys would laugh at our setups ....lol..

How old is you current yellow top? You want to be careful about putting a brand new battery with an older battery. Older Batteries will drain new batteries down to there level. Bet to do two new at the same time.. at least thats my understanding from the jeeping world with winches etc...

My yellow top is only a month old. Can I mix different gel batt brands? I want to run all gel but I might be able to get a better deal on a different brand.
