try rebooting the computer first. That has been known to cure many windows issues.

Having the problem on firefox and ie usually means it is something else.

Check all your settings like popup blocker's and anti virus software. If it still don't work then you may have some other issue's

If you are only having a problem with a Java applet (chat) it may not be the browser, but in Java itself. Did you clear the temporary internet files that are stored in Java? Right click on the Java icon (next to your clock in your tool bar) and click "Open Control Panel". On the "General" tab click the "Settings" button under the "Temporary Internet Files" heading. Click the "Delete Files" button. Click the "OK" button. Close the other open windows by clicking the "OK" buttons on them. Open your browser and clear any temp files by clicking on "Tools" then "Clear Private Data". Make sure there is a check mark next to "Browsing History", "Cache", "Cookies" and "Authenticated Sessions". Click the "Clear Private Data Now" button. Close the browser, then reopen it and see if Java is working correctly. If not, it may be that one or more files have become corrupt, in which case you will need to uninstall/reinstall the Java program. Good luck...
