How do I connect CB directly to car battery?
What is the cleanest best way to connect my CB directly to car battery? Any suggestions on what cable / connections to use. Also, does going through a Cigarette lighter really cause a lot of static/noise?

hook to the battery
well for starters what kind of radio do you have?? Is it just a cobra, a export dual final, or a big amped radio?? IF you have a radio with the big amp built in then you will need 8-10ga wire to go to the unit to battery......if its just a normal radio then smaller ga wire will do. Run through firewall grommet if there is one....if not make a hole but be sure to get a grommet for the hole or you will rub a hole in your wire somewhere down the road!! Be sure that you have the positive wire fused with the proper size fuse for your rig.

Connecting to the battery is your best bet, this will ensure a good power source. I put the two prong connectors on my power and ground wires and put them on the battery terminals. This works well, just remember to clean your contact points and make sure you have a nice tight connection.
Direct connection!

Could you please send me a link to a power cable and connectors to hook directly in to my battery? I am not running an amp now, just the CB. In the future though, I will add an amp. Which online store do you recommend that I buy it from? .... Thanks a lot.The-Deuce wrote:Connecting to the battery is your best bet, this will ensure a good power source. Is "HI-FI SOUND" an online store? Do you have their website address? You mentioned to go to local hardware store. Does Home Depot sell this type of stuff?coondog wrote:go to your nearest hardware store, they"ll have what your need.HI-FI SOUND online is a great place to order any Gage wire and connectors.

I run my Uniden Grant to the cigarette lighter plug and it works just fine. If you are getting noise in the radio then go from there. Keep it simple.......wiring an amp is a different story.Approach wrote:What is the cleanest best way to connect my CB directly to car battery? Any suggestions on what cable / connections to use. I have never heard of anyone getting more or less noise by going directly to the battery or the cigarette lighter/power point plug.

No offense, but cigarette lighters notoriously have a lot of nosie. Connecting direct to battery has less dirty power.85 wrote:I run my Uniden Grant to the cigarette lighter plug and it works just fine. If you are getting noise in the radio then go from there.
