RE 6JB6A tubes
If I'm not mistaken the 6JB6A tubes are rated at 65W each for full power output. They can be substituted for 6KM6 or 6JU6 tubes.Hang Em High wrote:I have an old tube style amp with five tubes four larger ones and one smaller one. 4 6JB6A tubes and 1 6AQ5A. can some one tell me the wattage of the tubes. Also I believe the 6AQ5A tube is rated at 10W of full power output. There are several tubes that are listed that can be substituted for this tube. The preferred substitutes are: 6005, 6HG5 and 6669. Additionally as a second choice the 6HR5 or 6DS5 can be substituted.
The outputs of tubes like this often depend on the type of amplifier configuration and it's Class.
Maybe someone else will chime-in and see if I have the outputs correct, but I believe that they are.

If you try and post pictures directly it won't work until I think you have 100 posts (someone double check the number but I think it's right). You'll have to post your pic's on a site like Photobucket first (many of us have personal galleries on sites like Photobucket). Then, provide the link to your image that's on the site.Hang Em High wrote:i will get some pics of the amp tomorrow. this thing is ancient, the 4 large tubes are hooked together, i don't know if that makes a difference?
For the heck of it also note the make & model of the amplifier that you're describing. Such "sweep tube" amps aren't usually real high-power amps but can certainly do enough wattage to get noticed. I believe the tube wattage outputs I gave you are correct. Let us know.....
And welcome to the CBRT Forum here by the way Hang 'Em High (boy I loved that movie----all the spaghetti westerns too really)

I believe it they are usually enough to "get noticed" and put out some watts . You sure it's homemade? Some of the older "sweep tube" amps can appear a little crude and can have that "home made" look, but still were manufactured. What kind of wattage are you realistically seeing on your external wattmeter?
It's obvious you are trying out the amp now, so you are currently using it. I'm "no expert" on these amplifiers totally but you may find the following thread I wrote at the link below of some use, for setting/tuning your tube amp correctly. For most CB amps, the very first post I wrote there would be the simplest and most straighforward to follow. The information I posted further along in the thread is for some of the little more complex tube amps (but can still apply). Hope any of what I tried to give you has helped you out with your amplifier.
