Oh man, that totally sucks. The same thing happened to a guy in the next town/city up the road from me. He was at 70 feet. He got fined and forced to take down his tower as well. I guess from what I've been hearing, 35 feet is the limit around here. Once I get a new piece of mast for my A-99, I will be at around 25 feet. WAY below the limit. Look on the bright side though. You'll have a head start on taking everything down for the move. I know its sooner than you would like, but it will be one less thing to do once moving day gets really near.

Ugg, not fun. I have had my run ins with the county ( not in the city limits ) as they drive through the hood and allways flag me for something. Too many vehicles in drive way, gata remove materials from carport, trailer part on grass, etc etc etc. But the back yard is ok and they wont say anything. Now, the bad thing is that there is a zoning meeting coming up and the city is trying to annex us. No freakin way, we dont want um, dont want taxes, dont want any part of.
If they do, I will probibly move.
yep

I'm with you.......it'd take a court order to make me take down my antenna!!! And then it would go straight into a moving truck!!

I agree with the court order, if you have had it up for 20 years I would bet it preceded the ordanance they are using for removal. That would probibly fall under a grandfather clause.
My **Censored** law yer opinion.

I could have sworn there was a federal law prohibiting local authorities from doing this. It might be worth while taking some time on the FCC's website and scan around some. I'm probably wrong, but it seems to me that it was enacted specifically for the "non-hobbiest" who would demand hams take down their antennas.
It's frustrating because city planning committees are often selective in who or what they target. Home Owners Assciations are different though. Most of the time the home owner signs a complience form at closing of their house. Same with CC&R's (Covenents, Codes, & Restrictions) which many new track homes have. Yet nobody enforces them.
All it seems to take anymore is 1 complainer in the neighborhood to cause problems. This is exactly why it's important (to me anyway) to try and run a clean station and not be wiping out everyones TV and stereo.
Sorry to hear that though.

#1 you should be Grandfathered in , but they couldn't force a Ham operator to remove his, so maybe lookup the law on this,,,,,I feel for you, hows your back?

If I recall correctly didnt the feds come out with a antenna rule law that over rules local codes?

Man thats tough jcollins. How soon before you move?Maybe you could talk the city into letting you keep it up until then. Its just a thought....it may save you some money on legal issues.

OUT OF CURIOSITY WHAT ARE THE RULES (AS THEY GO) WHERE YOU LIVE IF YOU HAVE A HAM LICENSE? IF THERE ARE ANY! ALSO HAVE YOU TOLD THOSE DING DONGS YOU HAVE HAD THIS UP FOR 20YRS WITH NO ISSUES AND WHY ALL OF SUDDEN IS THIS A PROBLEM??? I WOULD LOOK THROUGH YOUR LOCAL PHONE BOOK AND FIND AN ATTORNEY THAT HAS A FREE CONSULTATION AND RUN IT PAST HIM JUST TO GET HIS OPINION!!! IT WON'T COST YOU ANYTHING BUT A LITTLE TIME OF YOURS AND THE WORST HE CAN SAY IS YEAH THEIR RIGHT BUT THAT WON'T MATTER SINCE YOU ARE MOVING!!! IF IT WERE ME I WOULD FIND AN OLD ANTENNA PUT IT UP RIGHT BEFORE YOU MOVE BUT MAKE IT AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE!!! HA!HA!
JUST MY 5CENTS WORTH!!! GOOD LUCK TO YA!! SOUNDS TO ME YOU ARE GETTING THE SHAFT!
STICKMAN

no doubt i think i got turned in for massive
interference the last week or so i was playing
with my maco 2k. but if it was that i think i would
have gotten a letter from the fcc. first. ill hook
up my dipole for awhile. what the problem is they are
in the process of building a giant hotel across the road.
and they think it wouldn't fit in.

Taking is down is much easier than fighting.
I would recommend the fight if you were not planning to move anyway.
It would be a bummer to suffer financial or name damage if your on the way out anyway.
Leave one small pipe up, in the place of the antenna, put a leather glove on the pipe so that the pipe stiffens the middle finger, and fold back all other fingers except the thumb.
I would be concerned that they attach legal trouble to your home sale, or your legal record that might hurt your credit score.
its down
