I'm an IBM AS/400 programmer/analyst for a glazing subcontractor in the southern suburbs of Chicago. I have the exciting life of knocking out RPG programming code for 8 hours a day. Although I do escape to the forum a lot. Your eyes and brain can only handle programming code for so long. I can't complain though. My last job was working in an ink factory for 17 years. I put myself through school while working full time and here I am today. I've been programming for this firm for 6 years now.
I'm retired, not by choice, I broke my Pelvic and back 10 years ago, at work, took me a few years to walk again, still haven't had my back surgery, I'll put it off as long as I can, no guarantees on the surgery,,, so I'll wait,,,LOL,,,so everyday my feet hit the floor its a good day!
BIGBOPPER YOU ARE THE SMART ONE!!! I HAVE HAD 4 BACK SURGERIES AND THIS LAST ONE I HAD 8 SCREWS AND 2 RODS PUT IN MY BACK!!! NOW I MAY HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER SURGERY TO HAVE THE SCREWS REMOVED AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER FUSION. I HAD A CAT-SCAN DONE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, HAVE ANOTHER DISC LEAKING FLUID!!!
SO I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, ALTHOUGH I AM STILL WORKING BUT IT IS A STRUGGLE EVERYDAY.

Small business owner. Basically that means I'm broke most of the time. We specialize in industrial water treatment systems, chemical feed systems, and controllers for boilers, cooling towers, municipal, process, waste, and the list goes on. Been doing it for a long time. We are small (which I like) and cover 3-4 states mostly in the NW.
Well before i moved to the dust bowl i was a F/T Mech by night and a F/T Powder Coater by day . both job's required alot of hour's and knowlege of equipment . but the best i had and wished i still had was the powder coating . I've learned alot from 2 shawnee indian's that knew how to apply powder and so on . i didn't make much but i sure got alot of my car part's powder coated for nothing .
but in april 2000 i found the job i would love and stayed with that company for 4 yr's . Steel Worker went from laborer to shop super in that time frame . i was pretty much a do all thing's worker ...loaded truck's , asst mech , took bolt and nut orders for the field crew's . i was a multi tasker you could say .
right now I'm out of work on workers comp due to a lower back muscle pulled . but soon as i recover I've got a better job waiting on me .
I am an owner operator out of fishkill, NY, My truck (and me) are leased to a tanker Co, I haul Gasoline mostly...but also fuel and asphalt. I have been driving for 13 years..but this is my 1st stint as an owner-operator...as soon as Mr. Radioactive sends me my new SWP Gen lee...you can shout at me on the Thruway....
I own 2 companys so far. First it The Carpenters Hands Inc. We do home improvements from the concrete to the roof. The other is a side business which I hope to have ppl operating full time by mid summer is Phaze One Audio Division. We will be doing parties for sound shows and karaoke. The construction end of it is keeping me loaded up right now but sometimes it is either famin or feast. I have 3 full time employees + me and I am trying to concentrate on managing and sales right now. My main office is in 1/2 of my basement and my other office is on 4 wheels. We are not large but I would like it to be a little larger with maybe 1-2 full time sales men.
Under the heading of Phaze One I also build computers, network homes and a few offices. I have been known to do almost anything if money is tight !
I have run automotive shops including dealerships in the past and now hate cars. Cars were my hobby many many years ago till I made it my business. Best way I know to hate a hobby. I do run classes / connect groups at church to work with young ppl and teach them about hot rodding and car tips. and I have run car care clinics for single mothers to teach them basics about cars and even helped fix a few.
I'm a job foreman for a commercial subcontracting company. We do mostly metal stud framing, drywall and acoustic ceilings.I also do a little Taxidermy work(deer mounts) for extra money.
I used to operate wreckers of all sizes big and small for about 15 years and hauled cars up and down the east coast in a big truck for a little while, realized I don't like life on the road and now I own a 05 Kenworth dump truck, sometimes struggling to make ends meet...but making it right now.
