pc help

my home pc got a bad bug and now i cannot get it to go to my page(main home) it comes on lets me in and then just a blank screen no icons nothing what are some of the things i can do to try and get on to get pics and documents off be for my last option of a total syste recovery i was in the middle of backing up all my info and came home last night and my boss(wife) told me what happend and i just did not mess with it .today tried to get on in safe mode and it would do the same thing just background no icons . i just truned it off and came to work.but any ideas would be helpful thanks

SOMETIMES.. you can right click on the screen and then click "show icons" or something similar. Also, check on the active desktop settings. Switch it off for a bit 1-2 minutes then let it come back on. Normal Mode.

If nothing else works, buy a cheap hard drive and put it in the computer as your "C" drive (temporarily remove your old drive). Use your backup disks to restore the operating system onto that new drive. Once the system is back up and running, put your old drive in the computer in the "D" drive position (usually configured with a jumper on the drive). Run a good virus checker on the data on the old drive. Copy your files onto the new "C" drive after they are clean. Format the "D" drive using the -f option and leave it configured as a second drive.

This is the last option but it always works.
