Someone Explain This SWR to me :)

I've been messing around with antennas with my work truck. For several reasons a magnet mount was the way to go for me. It's a Wilson, btw. On CH 19 the match is 1:1, on CH 1 it's 1.4:1, and on CH 40 it's 1.8:1. Does this seem odd to anyone else? Is there something that would explain such a range? Since I use CH 19 at work 99% of the time, this seems good enough. But it still makes me wonder why.

Think it's time for a New Meter! It's theoreicaly impossible to have a 1.4 on Channel 1 and 1.8 on 40, then somehow get a 1.1 on channel 19! Sence 19 is in the middle of the band, useing your numbers it sould be around 1.6 or so....

yeah somethign is wrong... ususly with a tuned antenna you should get a semi flat match across the band. check your grounds and your mount. and try another meter before you go hacking into anything it just might be your meter

Well that could explain it! I was using the meter in another 148GTL I use for work. I knew it wasn't the best thing to do, but I like to use it for a quick check in the morning. I'll try another meter. It didn't make much sesne to me either.

I have a lot of problems with antennas on this truck. The grounds are horrible as it is a cab over and the entire cab flips up in the air to get to the engine. The mirrors have rubber gaskets between the mounts and the door. Even with the mag mount I have a hugh wall from the trailer behind me. My boss will absolutely not allow any drilling or tweeking on the truck, so I do the best I can. All considered it has been working very well and I get out pretty well.

Unless the antenna was so super duper narrowbanded it worked great on one channel then went up from there! LOL

Okay...I took both my old radio shack meter and my new dosy meter into work to try the match again. CH 1 1.5 to 1, CH 20 1.2 to 1, CH 40 1.8 to 1. There must be a reason for this :) I had to take about 3 inches off the antenna to even get it in the ball park. If anyone ever figures out why my match is like that please let me know. I can live with it, and it seems I could get it a little better. But why the spread is like that just drives me crazy with why that happens.
