Another predator 10 k question
Another predator 10 k question
I know on Wilson center load antenna's they recommend keeping the center load above the cab, does this hold true on the coils of the Predator 10k. I'm just trying to figure out how long of shaft to get when I buy one next week. This will mounted on the driver side, (I do alot of back road driving and encounter alot of low tree limbs), mirror bracket of a 06 Frieghtliner mid roof.

yes you want to keep any coil type antenna above the cab the higer the better
to fine out how long of a shaft you need mesur from mounting point to about 3'' or so above the cab
i know mr.coily carrys a trucker antenna [Please login or register to view this link] im not sure about 10k but im sure jesse james can help ya on that one
The Mr. Coily looks like a great antenna, I think I 'll order one for my pickup, but CB City is about 30 miles out of route for me tomorrow so I am going to stop by there and get the Predator for the big truck. I'll do some comparison on the two later. I guest I'm lucky the wife has "GIVEN" me premission to spend some money on myself. She just got a new $$$ kitchen and said this is cheaper then a new Harley.....lol
I hear you there! I am in the process of having a covered patio installed at home. The was my concession for her to allow me to keep on racing my car this seasonrayray1963 wrote:... True, on the Predator 10K antennas, you want the Coil (or Coil's-if its a Dual Coil 10K) above your roof line.
Now. I have always said, "The higher, the better".
BUT! I was over at Kales today to pick-up his Newest 10K to try out, and I think I'm going to have to re-think that statement about "Higher-the better".
His Newest 10K, uses a re-configured coil design. (few more turns, and coil is mounted differently to the insulator, which is also a little bigger)
This New designed 10K, uses a 10 5/8 inch shaft. A Single Coil, and on my Suburban, tuned about the same as my 27" Shaft 10K!
Now, first thing I noticed, was my receive improved over my older 10K.
While in South Ft.Worth today, I herd Bad Gas in Mesquite, which is about 40 to 50 miles from where I was at. With my 27" 10K on the roof at the time, Gas was barley moving my needle.
Pulled into a shopping center parking-lot, did a quick tune on the New 10K, stuck it up on the ol' Burb, and first thing I notice, is Bad gas has jumped-up to a 3 on my meter! Then I manage to make a decent contact with him to boot!
Later, after I got home, fine-tuned the new 10K, and tuned about the same as where my other one is...(1.0 to 1.1 across all 40+)
Now as for as Mr.Coily's go. They are nice antennas (I have a 22" Dual Coil Coily) But they still don't compare to the 10K...
Now, saying all that, depending on where you want the antenna mounted, will determine which 10K is best for you. 27" shaft is the tallest shaft Kale makes for the 10K. However, if for some reason you need a taller shaft, Kale will custom build one however long you want! I have seen one he made for a guy, that was 48" tall...

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
