I sure would like to know more about this as I would probably prefer 17 inches over 27 if the results are similar. What price????? And Kale is at the Predator site I assume?jessejamesdallas wrote:Almost forgot! There is a "Proto-type" Predator 10K that's is not yet avalible in the stores. You can only get them by contacting Kale himself, at this time. (as for as I know)
It has a 10 5/8 inch shaft, a single coil, which is a 1/2 turn longer, and the insulator is 7" long, which spaces the coils further apart, than the regular models. Also different on this version, is where the coil is attached to the insulator. On regular 10K's, the coil attaches on oposite sides of the insulator. On the proto type, the top and bottom of the coil attaches on the same side of the insulator...(this is how the first 10K's were done, about 10 years ago...)
Small differences, but I get the same results useing this smaller shaft 10K, as I did useing a 27" shaft Dual Coil model...

Phaze is right. John is the one on the Predator site. Kale just makes the things, and really don't have time to take care of a web. site. Too busy making 10K's!
So far, he's only made a few of these Proto-types, But they are available and I'm sure John can get ya one.
The New one that I was talking about, uses a 10 5/8 inch shaft. And has the best Field-strength reading of all the 10K's. The single coil, is only 1/2 a turn longer than the standard single coil, and is stretched-out a little more than the regular ones, so it uses a insulator that is 7" long, where the regular insulator's are about 5 inches long.
All the New 10K's however, have the new coil design, where the coil connects to the insulator, on the same side, rather than opposite sides, of the antenna...
Depending on what your mounting the antenna on, and where your wanting to mount it, would determine which shaft you need.
This New 10 5/8 inch shaft works great on roof's!! If on a trunk-lid, I would go with either the 17" or 22"....

Hope these pic's work!
Here is a pic, of a older 27" shaft, Dual Coil, and the New 10 5/8 inch shaft single coil. (note: Both antennas tuned the same, but the New Single coil has a better Field strength reading)
Older Dual Coil 10K, about 2 year old(coil's attach to insulator, on opposite sides)
New Proto type, single coil. (coil is attached to insulator, on same side, top and bottom)
Here is a older 10K single coil, and a newer one, which is what you get, if you buy one today. Both have a 6" insulator, the Proto type, has a 7" insulator)
The proto type insulator, and New Single coil...which is only available on the 10 5/8 shaft, and special order)
Hope those pics are clear enough to get a general idea of the antennas.
Another thing you may notice, is the 27" shaft, Dual Coil antenna, is close to being the same over-all height, as the New Proto Type, with the 7" insulator...
