575 squeel
My a static just started squealing if the volume is up at all. I swapped batteries and that did nothing. I tried it on three different radios and got the same result. The stock mikes for the radios don't have issues and I have backed the mic gain back. Anyone ave an ideas?

You might try grounding your mic to the case of your radio. I had to do that with my D104. Give it a try, only takes a few minutes. Good lock.....

Re: 575 squeel
does the radios you try this mic on have talk back. if so turn it off and see if the radio still transmits with a squeal. if so start checking the mic connector for wires touching the connector or 2 shorted together. if it does not squeal you have to much audio and the talk back is picking up the feed back..

Yep that is what it sounds like to me, the mic cord is broken somewhere or has been pulled inside the plug. You said you tried it on different radios, were they in your vehicle, if so you may have a swr problem, sometimes a squealing power mic indicated a problem where a stock mic won't.

If it's something that just started, I'd suspect something in the area of the mic connector. OR...
On those older Astatic 575's, I've seen the interior wires touching the PTT button. The movement caused by repeated contact can cause damage to the wiring. Something easy to check.

Does anyone know of a tech I could send the mic to and have it repaired? I would also like to replace the grille.

Very Common. Weak soldier joint on the connector where the mic plugs in the radio. They do it all the time. I take all mine apart new, and Fix the connections. I advise a small piece of shrink wrap around each joint. Its a bit time consuming to do it but if you take your time and do it right, using the correct size pieces cut short it will make them very sturdy and last a long time.
