my sears roadtalker strange Microphone
my sears roadtalker strange Microphone
Could someone advise, is this microphone an amplified one? IT looks brand new and will go along great with my Sears bases. There are screws on the bottom; but I hate to open up unless someone knows a little bit about it. As all my vintage radio purchases it is in mint condition and I talked to a couple of truckers on it. I run a dipole.

Should be easy to tell...Just turn the thing upside down and see if there's any settings...Like a wheel or a hole where you would stick a screw-driver inside for adjusting the audio...If there is, then it's probably a power mic...
Or you can just remove the bottom cover and see if it uses a battery... As old as that thing is, removing the bottom cover is not going to void any kind of warranty that it may have had at one time.

There is no adjustments for the mike. It sure is nice. I have several nice vintage radios. I tossed the DOA ones in the trash as the cost and aggravation was not worth the trouble.
I will sell all my radios to get a ham radio. I could never sell my HR2510 as I have had it for scores of years after buying new.

Does the base cover come off, some mics did not have an external adjustment, pop the bottom off and see. I do remember some radios also came with an 8v+ source on one of the pins and that powered the mic, also remember a mic that charged itself when in the receive mode off the trace voltage of the receive pin. It is a good design mic, does it have a model number anywhere on it or maybe inside when you pop the bottom.
I must have several DOA radios in the room, I never will throw away, you never know if parts from one will come in handy. When you want to get rid of them, box them up and put them in the "Free Stuff" topic, someone like me will pay the shipping for them.

Yeah don't throw them away! Fix-em up...I bought a old non-working D104 off eBay, and re-did it for little bit of nothing, and now have a "One of a Kind" Collectors Mic!

This was a rusty old chrome Mic when I got it off ebay, all I did was take it apart, sand it down, prime it with self-etching primer, and re-painted it and also replaced the Mic element with a W2ENY HiFi element. (available on eBay) Then found some Coca Cola stickers on ebay and dressed it up...
Here's one I bought off ebay already re-done, which gave me the idea to start with.

I second the don't toss it motto. I keep everything. I have given away more than I have sold. It sure helps folks out. And check this, no matter how old or junky IT is, someone has ONE that is in fair shape, but just needs that one little part to make IT right. Heck, a few members here got junk gear from me & I paid for the shipping on it. Sounds crazy I know, but several members here helped me when I needed it. I am a firm believer of what goes around, comes around.

If it is not amplified you could always rig one in the line from the microphone and the radio. You could even make an ECHO board if you wanted.
Re: my sears roadtalker strange Microphone
Oh, its a beauty, looks like brand new. I have talked on it. Since I have dipole antenna's my radio checks are on skip.
Re: my sears roadtalker strange Microphone
My last radio checks got me contacts in India, I.S.S.Space station and Germany. Actually I had to work to get the space station. I have QSL cards to prove it. I have been playing in the amateur radio frequencies since May and I already have over 25 contacts verified. Ham band is cool because when you make contact they WANT you to have their card and they want yours too. As a cb'er way back we used to send QSL card all the time. I don't think they do that any more.

Here are a few of my QSL card from other countries. I also have some from here in the U.S. and the one from the I.S.S.

The link below is what is used to study for the test. I aced the technician license and missed only one on the General test. This is the best online study i have ever seen. I went to the library and checked out the AARL study guide and could not handle reading it. This is the way to go. It'll cost you $30.00 but you are guaranteed success and the study method is sound. When you take the test I'll tell you a little secret when taking a multiple choice test. Two answers are recognizably totally wrong, two are sort of close. One is spot on with no doubt. Study will make it clear. Also you can take two test in one day, if you pass the tech license you can get the general test the same day.
