From another thread...
Mr.RadioActive wrote:Every car has a sweet spot. I've put on antennas on alot of caprices and the dead center stinks! For some reason they like to be more towards the back.
:?: Where's the sweet spot for a 1999 4-door Tahoe? :?:

Thanks in advance.

Any suggestions for finding this elusive spot when not using a magnet mount? I only want to drill one hole.

BTW, this is for the Wilson 1000 (I updated my profile since I made the call to RA yesterday), if that makes any difference.

PM Sent. And like I said, basicly all installs can be different, pending on the car/or truck, and the antenna itself.

Best to use first a magnet mounted antenna, like what your going to be useing when permantly mounted. And just move it to different locations on the roof, and see where it tunes the best.

THAT WILL BE, your "Sweet-Spot!"

I'm guessing, but I belive in your case, the back would be the best. About 6' from the back...

Thanks for the replies everyone!!! I ran a L'il Will (matched to a Cobra 25) several years ago and had it mounted toward the rear - about midway between the last luggage rack bar and rear of the roof. It was purchased and tuned at a shop in SC - assumed the guy knew what he was doing (he had quite a bit of personal gear in his truck and was using a through the roof mount). I was hoping to use the same spot for the Wilson 1000, but wanted to be sure it was a logical choice.

So when looking for the sweet spot do you take in account the full vehicle, or just the roof for centering purposes?

Thanks

Hard to say. I always thought you would take in to concideration the whole body, But, that dosent seem to hold true to Suburbans, sence the "sweet-spot" seems to be the rear of the roof... And Vans seem to be near the center.

Just have to either experiment useing a Magnet mount antenna, or fine someone with a similar car/or truck, and see where they mounted theirs.
