Skip on demand (Atleast this one time)

Talk about luck when it comes to shooting skip I have a good lil story I'd like to share. I was sitting on the couch today watching the tube when big blue sent me a PM and said hey get on 27.485 and see if you can hear me. He lives in Phoenix and I live in Knoxville. I ran out to the car and put the radio on 27.485 and called for him about two minutes. There was no one on there at all but a station from Washington state and that was it. About 3 minutes into listening to the the guy from Washington I heard big blue calling. I called back and we had conversation for around ten good minutes with no interruption. I mean no one else was on there but the two of us and the guy from Washington and that was it. How's that for a stroke of luck. just wanted to share that story?
Would like to hear from others with similar stories or just plain luck at the right time stories.

I agree - we were lucky, to boot! Propogation has run rampant for the past few weeks so we should try it again sometime soon!

KNOXVILLE TO PHOENIX
Kind of wanted to touch on this a bit further.. Since my first post I have made a total of 4 contacts with big blue from phoenix and on each contact we planned it out the day before and with success each time. I know there is a considerable amount of luck involved which makes it even more exciting making that long distance contact. On each contact we had a good clear signal with basically no interruptions. we just set a time and day of week and I go out to the car and we've made contact in just a minute or so after trying. Now grant I get skip from Phoenix almost daily but still to be able to pick and choose the time and day and have success is as good as it gets. It may not ever happen again but for the times that it did I have enjoyed it and feel like we beat the odds. Below is the times and dates we per planned our qso with success.
11-08-13 lower 38 27.385 11:45 a.m. Eastern 5 minute qso
11-13-13 lower 7 (F) 27.485 12:15 P.m. Eastern about 10 minute qso
11-15-13 lower 7 (F) 27.485 12:00 p.m. Eastern about 10 minute qso
11-18-13 lower 7 (F) 27.485 10:00 a.m Eastern 15 minute qso
The one on 11-18-13 I was actually on a road trip to south east ky and was surprised we were able to make contact but we did. It was actually one of our better ones. There were hills and tress on the two lane road I was traveling plus I didn't know if the 100 mile difference from knoxville would impact where my skip would come from. Not to mention being in a moving vehicle. Now I know this may happen to alot of the other members here on a regular basis and is probably not a big deal but it's a first for me and I just wanted to share the story.

567: It's really pretty rare to be doing what you and I are doing here. Granted, we are using "help" at each end but the distance of 1800 miles as the crow flies is no cake walk especially from a mobile to base station. Hope it continues!

Yea I talked to Blue the other day briefly on 38 lab, only I didn't know it was him!! I just heard 590 out of Phoenix booming in like a local and answered him, exchanged DX numbers and QTH 's and moved on. Well now I know who that was!!
And I'm that 759 central Alabama, Operator Mike.

I wish I could get Alabama skip mike. It would be like going back home to the ole stomping grounds. I hear stations out west talking to Birmingham and other Alabama towns all the time but I never hear the Alabama station.

I lived in Leeds for a while. Then I lived right off of red lane road in Roebuck/Huffman area for a long time at Williamsburg square close to the old Bel Air groceries store by east lake golf coarse. The store is gone now and my old neighborhood has changed ALOT from the eighties lol.

Oh yea I remember you telling me that now. I know exactly where you're talking about. I was born and raised in Trussville and lived there up until this May when we moved to Clay.
